Ozzfest - July 20th - New Jersey
Just got home not too long ago from today show and again SOAD owned Ozzfest tonight. I'm not just saying that either being they were the main reason I went. All the other bands basically got no or little crowd reaction. Both nights even Rob Zombie had a tough time but he let the crowd know he thought they sucked. Tonight Serj and Daron also made a small comment about it being such a calm crowd but hell I don't know - other than no moshing in front, which can't happen - the crowd was loud and alive.
The setlist in order:
Suite-Pee
Jet Pilot
Deer Dance
< bluesy guitar ditty >
Suggestions
Psycho (guitar solo at end changed up a bit)
Chop Suey! (crowd was so loud on this)
< La Isla Bonita >
Bounce (w/Charlie Benante-Anthrax on drums)
< OZZY chant >
ATWA
Innervision
< small speech >
Forest
Toxicity
< Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits (Daron singing) >
Aerials
Needles
Science
Sugar - part 1 (up to "I sit..")
Prison Song
Sugar - part 2 ("I sit in my...)
Again the show opened with a fish tank screen and Daron playing some Indian style guitar, last night I couldn't see him, tonight I could. I have no idea what the instrument was other than its a "laying down" type guitar/sitar or something.
As for earlier in the day - well it was good. I missed Apex playing due to some nice shore traffic as well as 6 or 7 accidents, but made it in time for some signings. Got up to get Apex's autos again and eyesore/Ken this is for you. I bought the CD sampler you had sent me, Andy was very intrigued and puzzled by this. I handed him only the sleeve insert to which he looked at it and said "This is fake, you printed this off the computer". I told him that I hadn't that it was indeed legit, he was very baffled, kept saying they didn't have a 4 track sampler or any sampler. I assured him it was legit, said a friend had sent it to me from the UK. He made it a point to show it to David and Art - Sammy was at the very end, who also seemed puzzled. I left and then remembered that I had the full case (no cd) so I went back and showed it to Andy he again kept saying "wow I didn't know there was such a sampler out there - very cool, strange but ok." I also had one of these Ozzfest Ibanez/Tama brochures so I had them sign that. David was first, he found John's pic and made a word bubble reading "I don't wear any underwear", I jokingly said "you're rough on those guys", he replied "John is one of my very best friends". Andy found Daron's pic and drew the same shit on his face he had done to someone elses yesterday - I'll scan it at some point and post it.
Later in the day while waiting near a fence for Meshuggah's auto's, I spotted a small crowd grouping and clammering near the gate so I went over and had the fortune of saying hi to Serj, getting him to sign a couple of these Ozzfest time cards and snagged a few pics of him. If they come out, again I will post them. I was very happy to "meet" the man, made my son's day. I also tried to take some live shots, but I was back further than last night and with a shitty little disposable I doubt anything will come out.
Anyways I think that's most of what happened today. Another thumbs up for Ozzfest.
