Opinions on Drugs...
In the other Soad post, there was this subject...I want to bring it here!! If you havent read it...u better!! lol.. I'd like to hear some opinions about this subject....Here's mine for starters...
I just read all the replies to the original message in the other post..and it really left me thinking...I agree that practically everything nowadays can harm you..I was at the beach the other day, and a friend of mine was lecturing me about putting on tanning oil...she was going on about how it causes skin cancer, ect.. I told her that everything harms you nowadays and no matter what, your gonna die anyways.
I dont do any drugs, but i have drank a few times..Drinking ruins your liver, smoking tobacco gives you cancer, emphesema (sp.?) and chewing tobbaco gives you mouth cancer. They're all harmful...but why is tobacco legal? why is Alcohol legal? Why those ,and not marijuana or other things?? I dont plan on using any drugs...not because I'm afraid they'll hurt me, but because I'm afraid of the consequences..(jail, parents trust..ect)
My beliefs about punishment and Drugs: I believe that people who are thrown into prison for possesion of drugs shouldn't be held there for the taxpayers of the us to pay for them...How can we fix a problem by locking someone up?? Unless the person has had treatment..There's no way that the person can be released, and change their ways.
It's like having a puppy bite your hand, getting pissed, and locking them up in a cage. If you dont train the puppy to stop biting, the second they get outta the cage they're gonna bite you again.
thanks for listening... Sasha

*ahem* I have very many opinions on this..and I can't really put them into words..but I do have a serj quote...which I can't remember the exact words but this is what he says....or means.
Marijauna is illegal because, The US can not put a tax on it. Because you grow it. So therefore they can't make money off it. And so since we can live without it (unlike food) they make it illegal. But it does cause temporary memory loss. But that's not a big deal.
Re: Opinions on Drugs...
I think it's ridiculous that marijuana is illegal, and things that can really harm you (like cigarettes and alchohol) aren't. Memory loss isn't really that big of a deal to me, some things I actually WANNA forget. I think that everyone has a right to put whatever they want into their bodies. The fact that it's illegal makes me feel like we're all living for someone else. If it's such a free country, then let us put whatever we want into ourselves, and we'll suffer the consequences ourselves.
Re: Opinions on Drugs...
I dont do any drugs, and im strongly against them. I dont agree that marijuana should be legal, if it were everyone would be a pothead. Also marijuana is a gateway drug alot of people start using other more dangerous drugs after trying weed. ive seen drugs ruin so many lives and it hurts to see people i luv using them.
Re: Opinions on Drugs...
fukevery1, do u think that things would change (regarding people leading into harder drugs after using marijuana) if marijuana was legal?? And I'm glad to see that someone belives that not using drugs is the best option. I believe in not using drugs either, but I just dont understand why alcohol and tobacco is legal for people over 18 (drinking 21), when marijuana and other drugs aren't legal; especially when some reasearch shows less effects on the body with marijuana than tobacco/alcohol...
and as for the pothead comment, what makes you think that if marijuana became legal, that everyone would start to smoke it??? Just like cigarettes and alcohol.... iIs everyone a drunk because alcohol is legal?? Does everyone smoke cigarettes/cigars because they're legal???? no. So, in my opinion, that comment was a little ignorant.
Re: Opinions on Drugs...
although i do smoke an occasional bowl ... i'm not a "pothead"
although i do pop more pills than daron ... i'm not a "druggy"
why? simply because i know my limits ... i know exactly how much it takes to get me to the point where i don't know what's going on around me
aside from that, i strongly believe that if drugs WERE legal than the majority of people who use them will stop because most of the "potheads" and "druggies" in my neighborhood do drugs simply because it's rebellious or some crap like that ... part of me thinks that marijuana should be legal simply because it used to be and it's alot less harmful than alcohol or cigarettes. yes it can be a gateway drug if your stupid enough to actually try other things, but then with that mentality anything really can be a gateway drug.
but whatever ... everyone's entitled to their own opinion
Drugs
I ahve a book called "marijuana myths, marijuana facts". Its super interesting and I encourage everyone on both sides to have a read.

I don't think all drugs should be made legal, but cannabis certainly should. The vast majority of drug-related violence (as in pub and club beatings, random attacks on passers by - NOT burglaries) is fuelled by alcohol, and smoking kills many more people each year than Ecstasy, amphetamines, hallucinogens, cannabis and even cocaine and heroin (don't know about the statistics for ketamine or crystal meths). Cannabis just mellows you out and helps ease physical pain, and sometimes it even IMPROVES your concentration rather than filling your mind with a smoky void.
To my knowledge, no-one has ever died DIRECTLY from pills (it seems to be because they either drink too much or too little), or gone on a violence spree. Personally I think pills should at least be downgraded to a Class C, because for a start they are, if used wisely, no more harmful than alcohol or nicotene. Yes, they may well have adverse psychological effects in the long term, but every drug has its own repercussions whether it be obliterating your liver or clogging up your arteries or screwing with your mind.
If ALL drugs were legal I reckon there would be a lot less crime all round. With the harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin, the dealers would be out of business and therefore the addicts wouldn't have to break into people's houses and mug people to get money for their next fix. However, I doubt the Class A's would ever be downgraded, let alone legalised, so I can't really go much further with that theory.
If the class B's were legalised there would be a lot more openess about them and therefore a lot more support, advice, and most importantly security. People wouldn't have to buy their drugs from dealers - who most probably woudln't even know what the hell was in the stuff they were selling and therefore wouldn't dream of taking it themselves - because they could obtain them from their GP (right now I can't envisage that happening but like I said it's just a theory). They would know exactly what they were taking, and they wouldn't have to worry about being thrown out of a venue and/or facing arrest because they had drugs on them. PLus, if class B's were legal, the rebellious issue would dimminish significantly, and maybe then kids would be less inclined to take them, giving less reason for their parents to be concerened?
I could write more, but this post is an essay in itself and I doubt anyone is gonna want to read that much! (note: I only realised this after I'd spent half an hour writing the godamn thing! )
