Re: Okay, a real dumb one.
You are fully entitled to your opinions, no matter how judgemental they are, no matter what stereotype you use.
You judged a book by its cover.
You don't know the man's psyche. You are assuming his psyche is questionable based on how he looks.
That makes you a stereotyping bigot.
As you pointed out before:
Bigot: One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and intolerant of those who differ.
You see, Dean - I am quite tolerant of those who don't believe what I believe - as long as they don't go around passing propeganda in an attempt to prove I am something I'm not.
Even Gorean-like people are highly individual. So don't lump us into catagories, please.
You, however, have taken one look at Randy's photo and assumed all sorts of things which you no freely admit.
That is a sign of bigotry and intolerance. I hope you are not pretending to be a representative of the moral majority.
You will refute what I now state, of course.
But as long as you don't delete anything in this thread, I am satisfied that your audience, which is likely mostly made up of your detractors, will see that you are the pot who calls the kettle black.
Your rebuttle, please.
Or perhaps an apology to Randy for judging him by his appearance will suffice.

"She had told me that I had become harder, more Gorean. I wondered if it were true or not."
Re: Okay, a real dumb one.
You know, Dean, the more I read your last post, there, the madder I get about your statements.
If everyone believed like you do, that you can tell all of these things about a person based on a photograph, I'd say the world would really be in a lot of trouble.
But then again, so many people ARE like you in this regard, that the world is already in trouble.
I myself have gone both ways, in my appearance. I have worn the suit and tie to meetings with other managers in a high-level office situation.
I have also worn black leather and played guitar in a punk band.
Image and appearance are your factors for judging a person, are they?
Why don't you show us a picture of yourself, so that you can be subjected to the same treatment, Dean? Would you like us to judge your psyche based on how you look?
So far you are making yourself look pretty ugly - in words.
How would you like it if we had a photo to go with it?

Re: Okay, a real dumb one.
One of the first things that I look at when accessing a patient{or any individual for that matter} is their physical appearance and their personal hygiene. Their surroundings can also tell a lot.
It is indeed factually an indicator of the mental health of a person.
A disheveled and unkempt appearence can be and is a good indicator of poor self esteem and depression. As is an unkempt and messy living area.
You can take my comment as being bigoted if you wish.
I do love how you all glommed on to this at the same time.
Coincedence?
I think not.
Re: Okay, a real dumb one.
You've just made too many obvious, stupid mistakes, is all.
Which is where the coincidence ends. I am not surprised at all that these people have rallied. If I am surprised about anything, it's that it didn't happen sooner.
Most others who disagree with you don't say anything because they don't like the repercussions that come from snooty, bigoted, judgemental Canadian snobs who will stoop as low as necessary to make other people feel like dirt.
Especially when it is possible that the man (boy?) who is whining about suing some slave might not be a man at all.
Some crusader you are.

Because it is.

I'm sure you do.

Stated as you look down the barrel of your nose.

"She had told me that I had become harder, more Gorean. I wondered if it were true or not."
Since the TOTALLY wrong impression is being taken here, I'll go ahead and tell the story behind the picture.
It was taken in Camp Casey, Korea in 1995. I was a E-3 in the U.S. Army. It was taken on a sunday afternoon, I hadnt shaved since frinday evening when I went out. My facial hair grows fast and is very dark. Take a look at the hair for a moment, fresh cut three days earlier. So much for disheveled and unkempt.
I was sitting at my computer playing a flight sim game. A buddy of mine came in with a camera and started bugging me, trying to get me to turn around so he could snap a picture, you all probably know a guy just like him.
Well here I was trying to fly a crippled fighter back on the very last mission of the game, and this dipstick (said with a friendly humor) was trying to take my picture. Well his bugging took its toll, I crashed, and burned. So I turned around, flipped him the bird, at which time he snapped the picture, then laughed my ass off.
I chose this picture because it was one of the few that my psycho (and yeah, that has been clinically proven) ex-wife had not burned. Also, it represents one of the most glorious and memorable times in my life. It was my first trip (aside from Basic training and AIT) out of my hometown, it was my first permenant duty station, it was my first glimpse into what the "real" Army was. I had the time of my life there. This picture represents fond memories, memories of FTX's, of setting up within spitting distance of the DMZ, of the trip to Panmujom (sp?), of a few fellows whose names I will never forget, including the "dipstick" that snapped the picture.
For the inevitable questions, yes, I do have more recent pictures. But none of them carry the significance of this one.
Disheveled ? Hardly, thats a $45 shirt. Unkempt ? hmmm, fresh hair cut, clean fingernails, and 2 days growth of facial hair ? again, Hardly
You made the wrong interpertations based not on my appearance, but on the "obscene" finger jesture, bigotry agains anyone or thing claiming the lable Gorean, and my past posts. You did not bother to look past the obvious, you took your first impression and went with it.
It was a wrong impression.
As for an apology, 1) I know it wont come, and 2) if it by some miracle does come, I know it will be the epitome of insincerity.
I am unsure as to what your point is about the price of your shirt, I have underwear that costs that much.;0)
I did take a lot of my impression from the vulgar and crude gesture.
Your explanation of the pic helps to flesh it out, perhaps the fact that you missed this forum led to this string and it would have ended earlier with your comments.
It still does not excuse, in my opinion, the gestures.

Stooping a bit aren't you LD.
Perhaps a Robaxacet or two may be in order.
I never said anywhere I was going to sue anyone for any reason.
I said that accusing me{a person} of stalking them is potentially libelous.
Talk about twisting words LD.
Shame on you.
There are also a number of people that agree and support me and do not comment because they do not like the repercussions, attempted belittlement and harrasment, as shown here today, that many whom call themselves gorean use as their only recourse to the truth.
Just to clarify...
...I suggested something be done about Randy's pic because it was GIANT and took up lots of space, unnecessarily. It wasn't an opinion on his looks, perception of its content, etc. Frankly, I don't like scrolling down and needed to because of the space the pic takes. That was all.
Re: Just to clarify...
Yup I sent an email to Randy a few days ago saying I was going to pull the giant pic post, it also was slowing down the loading of the page a bit.
Re: Just to clarify...
I agree totally Shannon, when I first posted with that Pic and saw how HUGE it was, I asked Dean to either delete the post (I reposted without the pic) or ... umm, I think take the pic down.
Either way the problem has been resolved to the satisfaction of all concerned.
Huh ... guess it can happen here after all.
