Nubias' Story... He was born the only son to Emerald of Yew, sister of Prospero. Knowledge of his father had been kept from him until later in life. Brought up under the tutelage of Lord Prospero he had followed the path of the mystics. His mother had died when he was a boy, taken by a sickness that had swept through the forests of his homeland. When he was of age, Prospero had informed him that his father had died in war against the forces of Lord British, in the service of Minax. Prospero had kept this from him because he had hated his father, a vile man who Prospero accepted only out of love for his sister. He had vowed that young Nubias would not be tainted by the blood that burned in his veins. Nubias and Arathorn, Prospero's foster son, together led a company of Order Guard for House Prosper. But the sins of the father bloomed in the son and he began to turn to a darker path, abandoning hope for personal gain. Estranged from both Arathorn and Prospero, he led the remaining members of his company into the service of Chaos, which eventually brought him into the service of Minax. Perhaps, subconsciously, he sought news of his father, whom his mother's family only spoke of in whispered contempt. He served Minax loyally for years, until in passing time with his comrades, his father's name brought laughter to an otherwise dull evening around the campfire. He learned that his father was not dead, but, a consort to Minax herself, a knowledge that shattered his loyalty and brought forth a confrontation with the grizzled old warrior, a commander of Minax's southern forces. Heated words soon brought heated battle, and Nubias reconciled his past over the body of his father. Leaving the service of Minax, Nubias wandered for a time, seeking direction and purpose in life, eventually finding himself on the steps of Covenstead, where he thought perhaps the seers of the Coven of Secret Shadows could provide answers... |
