News: The Bromeliad: the movie
There's good news about this movie, even if Good Omens seems to be floundering. In a recent interview Terry was asked:

Q:D reamWorks are reported to have signed a deal to make an animated film of some of your work. Is that still on?

A: We have signed up and, indeed, only yesterday did I have a good thumping big wad of money for the Truckers trilogy. They've given me money which they can't have back which is normally a sign of things going ahead. Nothing is certain in movies but on the other hand this is something we've been negotiating about – talking about for two years. A guy actually flew in a private jet across the Atlantic to come and talk to me about it initially. There were some various contractual difficulties we both had to overcome. I think it's gone on the backburner slightly because, after the success of Shrek, they'd got to get Shrek 2 at least under way.
But, yes, insofar as one can ever say this about the movies it's going to happen. After all, DreamWorks is largely composed of the talent rather than the suits. What they pick up, on the whole, tends to happen.

The full interview is at tinyurl.com/2825 and is worth a look at.

Other information about the movie which you may or may not know is that there will be only one of them.... that is, all three books are being condensed into one 82 minute film (according to most recent reports, anyway.... initially it was announced that there would be three films). I would imagine that's a difficult task, but Terry likes to be heavily involved in this sort of thing (that's one of the reasons why there is yet to be a Pratchett film).
I don't know what the movie is going to be called.... The Bromeliad is unlikely as I doubt the frogs will get a mention.... The Nomes Trilogy won't happen as its not a trilogy of films, and Truckers, Diggers and Wings are also out..... Suggestions anybody?

movie prospects
hey guys.
i'm a little new here but bare with me.

last thing i heard on the nomes trilogy movie, was during an interveiw here in NZ.
When posed the question "what is the word on the movie front?", Terry replied with "at the moment, the word is 'bastard'."

In general he was not to happy with the angle that dreamworks were trying to put on it. i doubt this will jeopardise the movie, but it may slow it down.

Re: movie prospects
Welcome!!!!

It's so nice to see an author want to have major input in th movie, so the wonderful movie people don't butcher the book, like some *cough cough* Harry Potter *cough cough*. I'd rather wait awhile and have the movie be a good interpertation of the book than get lots of disgraceful movies quickly.

I've actually never read the Bromiliad. Recomendations?

Re: movie prospects
Thank you

i definately reccomend them, and i Also commend TP for trying to make the movies "book like".

it had been a long time sice i read them, but think "the carpet people" on a larger scale :D

they Are his kinda "warm up" books, before he got into discworld, so some points are a little fantastical (but then again, it is about a group of gnomes who live in an aparment store... need i say more)

:x booo harry potter movie:x

Re: movie prospects
The Truckers trilogy was first published between 1989 amd 1990. In this period P, G!G!, E!F and MP were also printed (a prolific couple of years), so its not exactly true to say the bromeliad was a warm up for the discworld.

They're not about gnomes, they're about nomes.... Terry used a different spelling to try and avoid traditional ideas about gnomes.

They are another good trilogy of books. I'd certainly recommend them... they were my introduction to pratchett (aged 9ish) and I moved on from them to ER. I still re-read them, but not as often GO or the DW books.

Sorry for the nitpicking.... and the number of acronyms... ;-)

Re: movie prospects
I came THIS close to getting my 10 year old to read the Bromeliad. Now, I'm a loooooong way from being 10, but I thought he'd like it. My nephews (teenagers) love the TP books I've pointed them to. Believe me, they are funnier the older you get! (sigh, I used to identify with Eskarina, now I identify with Nanny Ogg....) :p
