New to board
Good morning! My husband, John, and I are just working toward becoming real estate investors. We're in the learning curve phase of things.

Anyway..got a question. What's the scoop on Quinlan Castle. We heard that it was going to be for sale again & we drove by. The potential is practically limitless for that place. What do you all know about it and what it has been in the past...and what the scoop is on it now?

We're just new enough to Birmingham (2 years here) that we know next to nothing about the place! The ideas intrigue us (although it would be years before we'd be prepared to take on such a huge project!).

Thanks!

The Castle
Stacie,

Last time I talked with the City of Birmingham about it, they owned it. And were looking for someone to take over their nightmare...I personally don't like the fact there is no parking with it. The units themselves are no too bad...But you've got to remember, that building was built when not everyone had cars in their household...Now everyone seems to have at least two....Where will they park 'em?

Re: New to board
The parking situation there is definitely a nightmare. John & I discussed that challenge, too. I don't know if a buyer could talk SRI out of the parking lot nearby or not... I doubt it, but it would be essential for anything residential going in there & would definitely help any commercial.

With it being so close to Five Points South, it would get a lot of traffic in the evenings (I don't know how hoppin' Five Points is during the day or on weeknights, but we drove down there at 2 a.m. on Saturday night & there were THRONGS of people). With that kind of traffic, it could make good commercial. With it being so close to UAB, it might make good residential.

I don't know. It's all a total pipe dream at this point. But it's sparked some neat thoughts, ideas & fantasies!
