Neck Snapped At Birth
www.nhl.com/allstar2003/moss012703.html

NHL Alumni to honor Joey Moss
Moss is the longtime dressing-room attendant of the Edmonton Oilers...

Moss was born with Down Syndrome.

Moss, who has been honored by the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society, has also served as dressing-room attendant for the Edmonton Eskimoes (sic) of the Canadian Football League since 1986...

Moss's dedication, thoroughness, friendliness and ability to swap locker-room insults have made him an institution. Former Oilers Bill Guerin, Doug Weight and Josh Green have called just to talk to him. Gretzky had Moss present his No. 99 sweater the night the Oilers retired his number. Gretzky took time that night to cite Moss's contributions to the Oilers.

When Dan LaCouture was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in March 2001, the last thing he said before leaving the locker room was, "Tell Mosser that I'll miss him and that I'll be seeing him soon." Moss was the first person LaCouture sought when he returned on a Penguins road trip.

"I admire how seriously he takes his job," Edmonton Sun hockey writer Robin Brownlee told Haskins. "Him not being there would be like the score clock not being there. His is the first face I see every morning. If I don't see him, I look for him."

"A day without Joe Moss is a day without sunshine," said Kulchisky, who picks up Moss every morning at 7:15 during the season. "He's always stirring something up. He gives as good as he gets."

"He does more work than anybody. He loves the Oilers," chimed in Todd "T-Bone" Marchant.

The Oilers locker-room has never been the same since Wayne Gretzky walked in nearly 18 years ago with Joey in tow.

The shy, reticent 21-year-old born with Down syndrome was looking for a job and a chance to prove his worth to the world.

This room has become his second home; the players, his second family.

When the NHL Alumni Association picked Joey as this year's recipient of their Seventh Man Award for his years of service and dedication to the players, it put the spotlight on a feel good story that every Albertan already knows.

Joey, who will receive the Award on Friday at the all-star awards dinner, is a role model for all children and young adults with disabilities, explained Joy Lonergan, who heads the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society.

``We're proud of the fact he has accomplished this goal and that he has been honoured with this trophy,'' said Smyth. ``He is probably the hardest working guy here.''

Snapped at birth indeed.

The really ironic thing is that Joey Moss born with down syndrome, whom would be killed in a gorean world is worth more and is more important and makes more money than anyone who calls themselves a gorean.

Hilarious.

Err...

"...is more important and makes more money than anyone who calls themselves a gorean."

Do you have any idea who I am and how much money I make and am worth?

No?

What a surprise. : ) Spouting off with no basis for your comments.

When I do happen to wander back in here, I'm sure I'll find your reply as amusing as all of your others.

Hope your Valentine's Day is full of love and kisses!

Mike

Sour Grapes
Sounds like.

Not only earns more but is more important, has accomplished more is loved by more, simply put the man is more.

By anyone's standards but a Gorean's and we all know they don't count.

Sort of like their word when they swear that they will never post here again.

Now go back to your whining and screaming into your pillow.

Special People.
My experience with Down’s people is that they are gentle, generous, fun, and have a great capacity for love and affection.

I think they are special and I really wish most of us were a bit more like them.

I’m not the only one to have noticed this, clearly as this tale shows.

I was also reminded of a quote in a book, that I read once. It’s fiction so of course cannot be considered the author’s actual opinion, but as I have said before, although we should not take a fiction writer’s work as scientific evidence to back up our own prejudices, we can be inspired by them.

Quote:

Down’s Syndrome people, with their extra chromosome, seem more appropriately equipped that the rest of us; they have just enough sense to feed and provide for themselves, an active desire to reproduce, and are far
less given to suicidal/martial behaviour than we others, who are in actual danger of wiping ourselves out, something no other species, as far as we know, has so far done.

Leader of the Band. Fay Weldon.

Who knows, maybe the fascism that Goreans are so fond of, may raise its head and be used against them. It may be that Goreans are genetically predisposed to their horrible right wing ideology, and their *martial behaviour.*

Perhaps those of us who are not so inclined will decide that such abominations are too dangerous to be allowed to live. ;)

Best Wishes

Minxie.

Re: Special People.
Had to pop in a reply here... "Doc"... correct me if I am wrong but... aren't you in FAVOR of terrminating certain people?...at birth I mean.

I thought I remember you making a few statements to that effect... from a "Medical" standpoint you understand. Doctors doing what is "Best" for certain people and all.

Only reason I am asking is I really would like to clarify this point... kinda looked like you maybe had changed your way of thinking.

Re: Special People.
No, you are simply confused between the concepts of eugenics and euthanasia.

I remember the debate[s] well.

I am in favour of the latter.

When for example a person has a terminal and painful illness.
When a person has made an informed consent.
This of course is impossible at birth.

I am against the former.
I have not changed my opinion one iotia.
Better luck next time.
I Love it when you all try to catch me in a moral conundrum to make me look like a hypocrite, I also Love it when you repeatedly fail to do so.

Further I have to wonder at the sanity of men who come here dragging their collective knuckles and pounding their caveman chests proclaiming for all to see that they are better than a man that is severely disabled.

That is simply hilarious and very sad at the same time, well after all that is a pretty good definition of a Gorean afterall.

Re: Special People.
Well I am glad you cleared that up... so you are in favor of "selective" killing, and would never make that descision FOR the person... but would be more than happy to kill them IF they consented... I can see the differance already.

**Further I have to wonder at the sanity of men who come here dragging their collective knuckles and pounding their caveman chests proclaiming for all to see that they are better than a man that is severely disabled.**

Actually YOU are the only person I have seen here proclaim ANYONE thought they were better than anyone else in here... disabled or not... but then I am sure you are used to people wondering about "your" sanity "Doc"...

Doesn't it just BURN ya when no one plays along and says what ya want them to? Ya have to go and twist their words to make it look the way ya want... pity that eh?

Re: Special People.
Burn?

Hmm, shouldn't you cite that word?
It certainly isn't not your own.
You sound like your are fourteen; a step up for you.

Play along?

This is not a game.Altho to all Goreans of course Gor is a game, afterall it doesn't exist anywhere but in cyber space and in their tiny imaginations.

If you are too thick too comprehend alleviating pain and suffering then then I was right when I called you and your kind less han human.

Au contraire my simply gorean friend, I have led you and yours down the garden path numerous times, this is yet another.

All goreans think that they are better than everyone else (witness the oft used eugenics clause and Tib's own diluted gene theory, Marcus's nazism, among others) I have simply pointed out your's and their's flaw.

The rancor that has been revealed by yourselves only lends credence to my position.

But I know what you'll say, Waaaaaaaa, you're a meany Dean, your hurt my feelings again, stop showing us for the simpletons that we are, I'm never coming back here again, never, ever, ever.

Pathetic.

You all sound like mommas boys.Whining about this and that, how unfair your lives are, how hard it is to live as a Gorean, how misunderstood you are.
Well for crying out loud start acting like Goreans instead of sniveling little boys.
Grown men crying like babies.
Sickening.

If I have been wrong about everything else I have been right about one thing, a Gorens oath means absolutely nothing.

Seeing as I am right about this, and that this one concept of Honour is so ingrained in the Goreans ethos that nothing else matrters to them, yet not a single Gorean has a drop of it, I can with certainty say that I am not wrong about anything else either.

Again I am accused of twisting someones words, so again I will ask you to show me where.

Re: Special People.
Hmmm... haven't we been down this path before... you make a "group" assumption and someone points out where you are wrong and... ya just can't see it... and would never admit it.

It IS nice to see you attribute Godhood to Marcus tho...it shows you clearly DON'T know what you are talking about... as for MY beliefs... I have never shared them with you so... unless you read minds now too... how would you know them?

I am glad to see you note how I have matured tho... at least ONE of us is acting older than 7 years... good to know it's me!

As for pointing out where you are twisting words... you KNOW where, but you will never admit it so... tell ya what... you point out where MY beliefs are wrong... and I might be able to show you... of couse you will have to state what my beliefs are... and you can't... but ya will sure dance pretty doing it

Re: Special People.
It wasn't an assumption it was a fact.

I know what you think, I have read your posts, they are simple.

"gor" is one group that you can paint with a single brush.

Marcus.
God like?
Where ever did you get that?

As to your lame insult try to be original, your stealing mine and your weak attempt to turn it back upon me is as lame as your stealing the term "burn".

Nothing new for you.Or any other "gorean".

If I knew where I was twisting anyones words I wouldn't have asked.

If you had proof my dear you would have been all to orgasmically happy to show everyone.

As far as that goes your claim that I twist words isn't original either.
Neither is your inability to prove that I have.

I have asked numerous goreans to prove that I twist their words, they can't.

I have asked numerous goreans to prove me wrong, set up a forum for that specific purpose, not a single gorean has been able to prove me wrong, or refute one thing I have said.

Just as you tried to catch me in a moral quandry and failed, all goreans fail, it is a philosophy that sets you up for failure.

You can't help it.

It is a philosophy that only failures are attracted too.

As for Joey Moss, I can rest assure that this man has achieved more and is more important and more loved than any 5 "goreans".

That is a fact.

Prove it wrong.

Re: Special People.
Still waiting for you to refute me, just once, anyone?

Is that the best you can do?
A semi coherent post that makes little if any sense.

C'mon most "goreans" can do better than that.

Now what about your "gorean" honour does your word mean nothing?

I'll give you one more chance to prove me wrong, to show where I have wisted anyones words.

C'mon big boy here's your chance to be a "gorean" hero.
