My story... Once upon a time, in the land of Yew, there lived a family of Mages. Born to them was a daughter who dreamed of being a great warrior, but, magery was the family trade and they pressed her to follow this occupation. One day when she was ten summers, she embarked out into the woods to gather kindling. She was set upon by an Ogre. Dropping her little armload of kindling, she ran screaming in sheer terror. She ran and she ran. She ran so far that she became lost in the great forest around Yew. Being of such tender age, and unacustomed to trekking too far afield of her house, she was unable to find her way back. Tired and hungry she wandered the forest, hiding from the beasts which inhabit the forest, sleeping in the hollows of trees or in thickets, safe from the predators. She subsisted this way for a few months, becoming a wild and dirty creature of the wood. One day she came upon a man who had set up a camp within her woods. Sam was his name, and he showed the child kindness. Learning that she had some small training in the mystical arts, he offered to apprentice her, which she accepted. Sam was a stern taskmaster and the girl learned the trade of magery, fulfilling her parents desire. After several years in his service, Sam decided the girl was ready to be on her own, giving her two thousand gold and a pack full of supplies, he released her from his service and she set out to learn more about adventure, which had been ingrained in her from that fateful day in the woods of Yew. Maybe she would never be a great warrior, as she had dreamed of in her youth, but she was becoming a young woman and an adept mage. It seemed to the girl that adventure was just over the next horizon as she stepped into the moongate to explore the wonderous cities that Sam had told her about... |
