Mets, Glavine Meet
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Tom Glavine gets to hear why he should sign with the New York Mets when the team meets with him Thursday,

Glavine is expected to travel to White Plains, N.Y., and meet with Mets officials, who want to show him potential areas he could live if he signs with New York, agent Gregg Clifton said Wednesday.

The left-hander plans to travel to Philadelphia later in the day for the Flyers' NHL game against San Jose. The Phillies plan on meeting with him Friday and showing him the site of their new ballpark, scheduled to open in 2004.

The Mets and Phillies have made three-year offers to the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner worth about $9 million to $10 million annually. The Atlanta Braves, the only major league team he has played for, offered a two-year deal with an option for 2005 that could become guaranteed based on starts and innings.

The 36-year-old Glavine was 18-11 with a 2.96 ERA this year, and has a 242-143 career record. Greg Maddux, another of Atlanta's stellar starters, also became a free agent following the World Series.
