Lightstar Secrets: Consent
She turned and turned on the med bay bed, haunted by nightmares of the past.

You're a freak! No one wants anything to do with a you! Who needs a bastard mutant sired by the likes of Mon*Star?!

It was at the final scream she woke up. At first, she was uncertain at what had happened, but soon things became clear.

"Oh no..." Sapphire thought to herself. "It didn't work."

Re: Lightstar Secrets: Consent
Moments later she noticed her two friends, Chatterbox and Sundance, looking down at her. They both looked very relieved.

"We did it, Chatts! She survived!"

"Welcome back, chica!"

Sapphire wordlessly laid back down on the bad, turned her face away from her friends, and began to sob.

"You should've let me die." Seska whispered, choking on sobs.

"No!" Sundance cried. "You're our friend! We couldn't do that!"

"If you knew what I was, you'd never considered me a friend."

"Why?"

"It's...personal."

"Please, Seska. Talk to me!"

"It's also humiliating!"

"I don't care!"

"Fine then!" Seska shot up from the bed and looked at Sundance in the eye. "Ya wanna know why I tried to kill myself? I'll tell you! It was because I tried to put an end to Mon*Star so he wouldn't try to hurt you, I failed, and he, along with half of the base, has learned that I am his illegitimate, biological daughter! ARE YOU HAPPY?!"

"What?"

"You heard me. Now get out."

"Seska,"

"GET OUT!" Sundance did just that, but not before hearing Chatts say he'd keep an eye on her.

Re: Lightstar Secrets: Consent
It was hard not to hear the shouts from the medbay, and Steelheart didn't even try. The strength of the projected emotions worried her. she strode quickly in that direction, only to have Sundance crash headlong into her, tears streaming down the girl's face.
Emily quickly pulled Sundance into the nearest room, a tiny conference room. She pulled sundance down into the low couch in the room, and sat besdie her, cradling the crying girl's head on her shoulder.

"It's Seska", Cami sobbed, body tight with the secret she wanted to tell but could not.
"Let me guess", Em said. "She's all torn up and thinks that we'll reject her because of who her sire is."
Cami gasped "How.."
Emily smiled. "Despite her shields, she does project. And blood does call to blood in some fashion, and I have met his other daughter." Emily shared the memory of a green haired woman they had helped when Cami was young.
"She needs time, my friend. You must be strong for her, and not let her push you out of her life. But you must give her room to breathe. SHe must come to terms with herself, none of us can do that for her."

"Thanks, Aunt Em." Cami sniffed. "I guess I should take a breather now, before I have to go on patrol."

At the medbay, Chatts was looking at Seska with great dissaproval.

"Sara Seska Star Terani, what the hell were you thinking?" he scolded. It was rare of him to use her full name. "Cami comes up to you and offers friendship, and you drive her away like a bulldog."

"What did you expect?" she snapped. "That I let her get close to me? She, and anyone else doesn't want to be around the likes of me."

"Because you never give them the chance to get close. All your life, you push away anyone who figures out your parentage."

"Except you."

"Except me, since I couldn't talk at the time. But you've got to stop distancing yourself from others. Okay, your mom's a dead bitch and your dad's Intergalatic Enemy #1. Big deal. There are people with worse. Remember that."

"Sure." At that moment, Bluegrass appeared. "What do you want?"

"Before you bite my head off, Sapphire," the Cowboy said. "We need to talk about your family."

"What's there to talk about? I'm Mon*Star's bastard child, end of story."

"Not exactly..." Bluegrass then proceeded to tell her about Jadine.

"Unlike you," James explained, "Jadine had to live with Mon*Star, watching helplessly as he abused both her and her mother. Somehow she found out about you and she's been hoping to find you."

Seska was stunned. She never knew she ahd an older sister.

"How do you know all this about my sister?"

"Well, it so happens we've gotten kind of close."

Re: Lightstar Secrets: Consent
"Why did Mon*Star treat her the way he did? Doesn't she have powers like me?"

"Yes and no. Jade once told me that Mon*Star wants his heirs to have the same powers he got at birth. Her powers didn't manifest until a few years ago. Mon*Star didn't exactly see her as heir material."

"But he saw me it, and I loathe him."

"I don't blame you; Chatts said you had a hard time because of him."

"Of course. My own mother didn't want me because of him; what makes you think anyone else does?"

"Look, I'll tell you right now none of us cares who you are or who your kinsman are. You're one of us, and we stick together. We'll just keep this entirely to ourselves."

"You didn't let it spread out to Dalister, did you?"

"No way! Why?"

"Because if he knew, he'd surely use it for blackmail material, and I'd have to kill him before he leaked."

"Look, I know Kyle's a jerk, but he's no snitch, or traitor. But, if he ever does try something like that, wouldn't it be easier to wipe his mind?"

"What mind?"

"You have a point there."

Bluegrass ambled over to a wall and leaned his tall fram against it.

"You know Sara...you don't mind me callin' you that do ya?"

"No, I don't mind. It is my name, after all."

"Ok. I was just thinking about something. Would you like to contact your sister, jadine? She's been looking for you for quite sometime, and I'm sure she'd love to hear from you."

"Ya know, I think I'd like that, too. Maybe we can spend a few days together."

"Really?"

"It's about time I got to know my real family, even though it's only a half-sister. Why don't you call her up and tell her about me, then I'll take over?"

"Sounds like a good plan."

Meanwhile, in another part of Limbo, Poker Face was balancing his accounts when his e-mail alerted the presence of a new message. When Pokey read the message, he couldn't believe his eyes.

Pokey,

Send this message to Sapphire ASAP. Will explain later.

-RJ

"What in Limbo?" Poker Face observed the attachment on his message. "RJ, what's cooking in that brain of yours this time?" Poker Face tried to read the attachment, but it wouldn't open. "Damn it. He's serious, isn't he?" So Pokey decided to do what the message told him and forwarded it to Sapphire.

That evening, Sapphire went back for a check up with SteelHeart at th med bay. She was still a little peeved at Chatterbox for the little comment he made on her way there.

"Where ya going, Ses?"

"Emily told me to come back for a check-up."

"Don't forget to get a check-up from the neck up."

"What? what the hell's that supposed to mean?"

"You gotta admit you've been acting a little crazy and a little selfish lately."

"Who asked you anyway!" Sapphire grumbled as she pushed the mouthy cyber-parrot off her shoulder.

"Ay yai yai..."

"Hey Chatts!" Chatterbox turned to see Moonstryker.

"What do you want, Dalister?" Chatts snapped.

"Just wanted to ask what's up with Sapphire."

"None of your business."

"Gee, I was thinking she must be going through some PMS right now."

"Kylie, do you want to have wet dreams all the time?"

"Sure. Who doesn't?"

"Then keep your fat lip shut, you bastardo sexista, or I'll personally bite them off. We clear?"

When Sapphire got to the med bay, she gave SteelHeart a quick salute and we straight to one of the gurneys.

"You're not waisting any time, are you, Seska?"

"Can we please get this over with?"

Emily sighed and prepped Seska's arm for a blood test.

"This shouldn't take long. I just need to see if all of the poison is out of your system. So far I don't see any ill effects."

'Except for extreme exhaustion,' Sapphire thought to herself. She had a hard time getting out of bed just to come to her appointment.

Re: Lightstar Secrets: Consent
"I assume Chatts told you everything?"

"Yes, he did. Do you want to talk about it?"

"About being some sort of half breed freak sired by the worst criminal in the universe? I don't think so."

"Look, Seska, I know this is hard on you..."

"You don't know anything! You have no idea what I go through!"

"Then tell me."

"Learning about something and actually going through it are two different things, with all due respect."

"But doesn't the Mykari have something that allows a person to see memories?"

"There is a spell...a mental view that Mind Element-Mykari use to see memories of people, but last time I checked you're not a trained telepath. Hell, you can barely handle your own Element."

"But you are."

"No way, 'Heart. Nothing against you, but my memories aren't exactly the best shows."

"I've seen worse, and this'll stay between us. Word of honor."

"All right, I guess I could give you a mental view. But I have to warn you, as an empath, you'll be going through my past feelings as the memories play out."

"I'll take that chance. Besides, you're on medical leave anyway."

"I know. Commander's orders; doesn't believe I'm mentally stable."

"Let's hope that what I learn inside will change all that."

"You know something? I haven't fully trusted anyone like this since I met Chatts."

Meanwhile, on Brim Star, Zero the Memory Thief was just broken out of prison and was relating to his fellow Mobsters what he deemed as an extreme danger.

"I am telling you guys!" Zero continued. "The man's a maniac! I don't know about the rest of you, but I will be damned if I cross him!"

"Cross who?" someone asked. It was Draogr, and he had just walked in with Astrala. The huge dragon looked over Zero and just smirked. "Don't tell me, let me guess; someone got on Brightlight's bad side, again. Been real easy to tick him off, these days, I wonder why..."

"It never occured to me that he would do this." Zero explained. "I mean, I always assumed Brightlight was just a stern pencil-pushing procedure nut."

"What?!" Dragor guffawed. He then laughed hilariously for a minute then calmed down. "You are a rookie, aren't you? Well, let me tell you something, all of you!" He looked around at every Mobster's face. "Brightlight may be a bit of a rules and regs kind of guy, but when it comes down to it, he can pertain in some...unorthodox procedures."

"Like what?" Windahmmer asked, gulping.

"It'd take all day to list, but a good example is finding anoymous sources...beyond the Light Year Limit." Everyone but the Elite and Mumbo stared at him. "Hey, if the law can't touch us out there, they can't touch him, which leaves him free to beat the cr*ap outta anyone and not get court martialed. But enough of that; Zero, why don't you explain exactly what you did to peeve him off."

"Okay," Zero began. "I was stuck in prison, and I was under Brightlight's watch. Well, I mighta said some things..."

"Go on."

"I kept bugging him on how if he wasn't careful, one of us was going to take his girl." Dragor gave a small growl Moley's way; he still hadn't forgiven his protege for spilling the beans about his discovery about Sundance and Brightlight to the entire Mob. "And what does that bastard do?" Zero continues. "He walks over to my cell and says, and I quote, 'I'll teel you what, Zero. You mess with Sundace, fine; just pray she deals with you or I'll make sure you don't have to worry about the Penal Planet. That goes for any of your little Mobster and MATI friends, espeically those bastards Mon*Star and Ataka.' Then I ask him how, exactly, was he going to not make me worry about the Penal Planet and...." Zero stopped speaking and held out his precious memory rod, the very rod he used to steal the memories of others, broke in twain.

"And when one of the SilverHawks came to escort you to the Penal Planet?"

"He told them the rod broke accidentially. Gods...Dragor, you and the Elite have been in the galaxy longer; what's your take on this?"

"Let me check something first." Dragor said as he accessed a computer terminal. "Brightlight's an old-fashioned kinda guy; loves to distribute punishments according to the religion of his species. Problem is, they ain't exactly compatable with standard military rules and regs, so...better stay in Legitimate Space for a while until he cools down." As soon as he found what he was looking for, Dragor paled a little. Then he shut down the terminal and turned back to the othe Mobsters.

"Well?" Windhammer asked.

"Guys," Dragor began. "Zero's right; messing with Sundance is NOT worth what that squid's got in store for the unfortunate sap. If Mon*Star wants to go all horny for the perfect heir, fine. I ain't risking myself for a piece of flesh."

"But what's..." Molecu-Lar began.

"Moley, you don't wanna know, espeically not you."

"Why?"

"Because aside from this particular little discipline I discovered, you, with your accerated healing might get yourself killed, slowly."

"Is it that bad?"

"It's that bad. I'm crazy, but I'm not stupid and messing with Sundance with her man on the warpath is beyond stupid, and occasionally suicidal." The Mobsters silently agreed.

In the corner, Yesman couldn't help but chuckle to himself at Zero's story. Some things, he thought, would never change, and this was one of them. "I wonder if Pokey remembered to do what I asked him to?" he thought to himself.

Re: Lightstar Secrets: Consent
Back on Hawk Haven, Sapphire tried to readjust to her second chance at life. Because of her suicide attempt, Stargazer had relieved her of her duties until further notice. She was also not allowed to leave the base until further notice. That left her with little to do and little to say. Most of the other Hawks were kind to her and would try to talk to her to see how she was doing. Sara didn't seem to respond to their concern. Besides Emily, there was really only one other person she felt like she could open up to. That was Jonathan Quick. She kind of identified with him in a way. He often kept to himself, but when she talked to him, he seemed pretty friendly and understanding. What she liked about him most is that he never pushed an issue. If she didn't want to talk about something he left the subject alone.

Re: Lightstar Secrets: Consent
Things went on like that until she checked her e-mail. There was a message sent especially to her; whoever sent it made sure she couldn't track it to its source. The message said that it knew who she was, understood her hatred for the Mob and offered to help against Mon*Star. She even checked the law mentioned in the letter; it was the Endangered Species Statute, a law that said no member of an endangered species would be killed under any circumstances. It was supposed to prevent extinction until the speices was sufficient enough, but Mon*Star used it to his advantage. As a member of the Feltorue race, one such endangered species, the Statute was all that was standing between him and a death penalty.

"I know he's gone after your friend Sundance, and a way to counter that is to reveal Mon*Star's carnal intentions to the MATI leaders." the note continued. "You know how they despise interracial breeding. Dragor's tried to convince Ataka to open his prostitution market to foreigners and he's not giving in. That's how extreme they are."

The writer of the note identified himself as "Junior" and said that he would be in touch with any information.

Whoever this guy is Sapphire thought. He's going through a hell of a lotta trouble to not be found.
