Let there be dibblers, and there was.
in the begging, the creator created the universe. in that universe, he placed all the planets and the cosmos. then he got bored and decided to make the disc as a joke.
while he was at it, he decided to invent the dibbler. a parasite on the economy of the disc, and yet strangly essential.
in nearly every book set in foreign clime's, it seems we meet a new dibbler.
of course theres the all famous CMOT, who needs no introduction, just watch out for his meat pie floaters.
And then of course theres ones in EcksEcksEcksEcks, djelibaby, klatch, and i beleive there was one in tsort.
i spent a whie lloking, but i couldn't find any names.
advances are welcome

All of Rincewind's encounters with Dibblers are stated in The Last Continent, they are:
Disembowel-Meself-Honourably Dibhala: Antique eggs
Al-Jiblah: Cousous
May-I-Never-Achieve-Enlightenment Dhiblang: Yak butter tea
Dib Diblossontopless: "Bottomless shmorgasbord"
May-I-Be-Kicked-In-My-Own-Ice-Hole Dibooki: Blubber
Swallow-Me-Own-Blowdart Dang-Dlang: Green beer
Fair Go Dibbler: Meat pies covered in pea soup and tomato sauce

Re: Let there be dibblers, and there was.
Many of them haven't actually appeared in a book but were merely mentioned in TLC in a phrase something like:
'Rincewind had braved the Couscous of Al-Jiblah, and... [list of dibblers & their specialities] ...but never something as unusual as Fair Go's Meat Pie floater.'
The ones that have been seen include: Disembowel-M-O from IT, cut-my-own-hand-off in SG and I think Al-Jiblah was possibly mentioned in J...
I have a feeling we've seen others, but nothing comes to mind....
[FX: gives up and goes and gets the companion]
CMOH dblah: SG.
DMH Dibhala:IT.
Can't actually see any others, Fair Go isn't evn mentioned. One person who is mentioned is Sol Dibbler from MP, but i'm not sure if he counts.
Once you've finished the DW novels, then you need to start on the DW short stories.
rob, who doesn't think there's any new dibblers in the short stories

thats alot of dibblers....
now, it hit the other problem of haveing trouble recongising the abreviations.....IT: interesting times,....TLC: the last continent,......that was about it .
it doesn't really matter, but its the kind of thing that sits at the back of my mnd and eats at it (not like hannibal lecter of course, but close enough)

Re: abbreviations
well, MP is Moving Pictures.
The others are names of dibblers which had already been mentioned in the thread.... including one where I seem to have assume honourably began with an 'o'.
BTW (by-the-way) appologies for the terrible formating of my previous post, I've tried editting it (and have since improved the punctuation) but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Re: abbreviations
Very nice paragraphs...
Don't feel bad, Irene--I haven't read short stories either! Ahhhh! Will my list of books ever shrink? I still have to read Moving Pictures, thank you for reminding me, I think...

Re: short stories
A few weeks ago, as you may or may not remember, I read The Salmon of Doubt. Included in it was a short story called Zaphod Plays it Safe (Which explains the origins of Ronald Reagan, and the real reason why the earth was destroyed) there was something bugging me about it... I was sure I'd read it somewhere before. This morning the answer struck me, it must be in one of the comic fantasy anthologies I have. It was.
I also came across a number of TP short stories, so while the information is fresh in my mind I'll share it with you.
There are three DW short stories:
Troll Bridge, which features Cohen, and appears in The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy
The Sea and Little Fishes, which is about a competition between witches, and wht happens when one year it is suggested that it would be nice if Granny Weatherwax didn't enter in order to let someone else win; published in Legends, Masters of Fantasy
Theatre of Cruelty, about the time Carrot asked the one person who is present at all murders to helpp him with his enquiries. In The Wizards of Odd
He's wrote numerous other things (including, of course, The Hades Business) but two I have on my shelves are:
Turntables of the Night: An avid record collector meets someone you might recognise who also collects old pop stars, but doesn't yet have the complete Beetles; found in The Flying Sorcerers
Holywood Chickens: the increasingly amazing efforts to solve the old road crossing problem: Knights of Madness
All good. All of an ideal length to read standing in a bookshop.
