Joint Missions
I'm just wondering how joint missions tend to go for the rest of the fleet, personally I've only been privy to two of them once while I served aboard the USS Horation Nelson and the other time when the USS GWB ran a joint with the USS Liberty...I was just curious how they tend to go for everyone else and for future consideration, for myself and all who read this, what ships have an interest in doing joint missions...peace

Re: Joint Missions
Back in the day when I had the Sunfire we embarked on a joint mission with the USS Liberty. It turned out better than I thought and there was some really great inter-ship character development. Especially the fist-fight between me and Ace Decade!

Re: Joint Missions
I've always been somewhat wary of joint missions. If two ships go into one with the same mindset that they have when beginning a regular (one ship) mission, it's going to be a bad experience.

First, here's my experience with joint missions on the Washington: Back in, I believe, October 2001 the Washington under my command and the Potomac (now the Minerva), which had recently been spun-off the W, under Capt Krol's command engaged in the fleet's first-ever joint mission. The second joint mission I was involved with was with the Horatio Nelson in July 2002. That mission went very well (that was the month the W got 201 posts -- then a fleet record) and everyone greatly enjoyed it.

I think that the secret to having a good joint mission (there was a 3rd JM that I observed/took part in) is giving each ship a different reason for being involved. Both crews are working on the same problem but should have slightly different tasks to complete.

Experiences...
Joint missions can be a problem becuase of everyone wanting to have equal time in the plotline.

That's where things can get confusing. It can develop into almost a clash between crews if it's not done right.
What helps is if both crews are on the same page plot wise. If one ship just jumps into a joint mission with another then group members might get overloaded with posts and not be able to keep up with the story.

I guess CO's should inform there crews with special guidelines as to joint missions perhaps something along the lines of less character development more plot oriented posts.

So, IF they are done right, joint missions can be fun.

Re: Experiences...
Well hopefully your advise will pan out.
The premise for the JM is that the USS HN finds a worm hole and and gets drawn in. Before she goes through she gets off a message to SF and the USS GWB is dispatched to render assistance.

Who knows where that will go but it can only serve to excite and stimulate the crews of bith ships.

I just have to say, I'm loving this current JM between the HN and the GWB. Good job Brit.

Joint experiences
I have been part more than my fair share of joint missions. Some work out great, others are horrible. The point has been made that I must agree with, that if the crews come in on the exact same mindset, things will go bad. This is a true thing. If it isn't done properly, crew clash. Overall, joint missions can be great. I think a lot can be said for them. Just have to be structured properly.
Perhaps some guidelines for joint missions could be devised.

Re: Joint Missions
I've never been in a JM, and something just popped up in my mind and wouldn't leave me alone, so I'd like to ask it before it drives me insane.....:

IDF Regulations state that a person can't have more than one character on one ship, but can have more than one throughout the entire fleet, on different ships.
What happens if a person has a character on 2 ships and those 2 ships do a JM?

For Example:
I'm Cmdr. Treniek on the Avalon, and Ens. Jarvas on the Washington. If the Washington and the Avalon happened to have a joint mission, how does that work out for my characters?

Just a question that wouldn't leave me alone, I'd appreciate any insight on that. Thanks :)

Joint Missions
If that were to happen you would only have to post once and your post would count for both ships. In joint missions only the posts done by crewmembers of that ship count for that ship. So if you were on both ships, you would jsut sign one post for both crewmembers and that post would count for both ships.

Re: Joint Missions
I've been only involved in one joint mission once. And eventhough I went on a short leave, which only gave me one real opportunity (due to final exams,) I would be more than willing to participate in one in the future. I just joined the forum by the way. I'm the Chief Communications Officer on Deep Space 15, and I just started simming with IDF in March . . . and it's been swell as I just finished an interesting sub-plot of our current mission and the past month has been so interesting on base. The joint mission that DS15 was involved in was with the Sunfire B, although it was one day long on the sim - I'm looking forward to participating (more fully if able) in a future joint mission.

Re: JM's
Hello everyone,

I see that no one has posted in this column after me . . . hopefully JM's are still some what popular in the IDF, lol. I sim on both of the starbases, SB10 and DS15. I just joined SB10 last week and we're just starting along another mission. I've been simming with DS15 since March and I've had some fun times there . . . partly because we've had some wonderful missions and a great group of simmers to boot. DS15's current mission involving a negotiation - if you can call it that - is almost finished and is winding down for the most part.

It would be wonderful if DS15 could do a joint mission with one of the other sims in the fleet again. The last one ended in mid April and lasted for a couple of weeks (I think) and it was done with the Sunfire B. I see that I'm not the only one who wants another joint mission from that base.

According to the DSE division newsletter, my CO - VC also wants to start a JM with any willing sim. If someone or to put this clearly, an ship within the IDF wants to do a JM with DS15, please email VC (Capt. Victoria Concord). Or of course you may post on this website since she is a registered member of this forum, lol. I just thought of posting it here incase a sim outside the DSE wants to do one with us.

Re: JM's
Great ... I mean good news (or so I hope). One of my simms, DS15 *may* be starting a JM later this month with the GWB - it was just posted on DS15's archives earlier this morning straight from our wonderful CO, VC. This JM involving the GWB and DS15 should be starting in a week or so when both simms are free to start up a new JM. Hopefully this JM will be a good one to write about! The mission plan is still in progress, or so I'm told.

Re: JM's
Well DS15 just started its second JM this Saturday and this time with the GWB. It seems to going well so far . . .

I guess most of you will have to wait until September's newsletter to hear a snippet of our mission. It the JM got exciting yesterday as a plot twist happened on DS15 and in the surrounding Janova system near DS15 - which effected the GWB since they're docked at DS15. Hopefully this JM will turn out to be a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: JM's
As of Sept. 12th the JM with the GWB and DS15 ended. Currently DS15 is in between missions and currently doing CD posts which is a good thing lol, because I have so many tests etc. coming up. I think it was a good JM overall eventhough DS15 did end up posting more JM posts for August . . .

I'm just ready and waiting for DS15's next regular mission here . . . and studying and getting ready to write a CD post.

Have fun and be good everyone,

Re: JM's
Despite the fact that I am currently on LOA from both SB10 and the H, I am posting this message ...

My newest simm the Holland will be JMming with the Raptor later this month. I hope to come back by my birthday ... which is 10 days from now, so I can celebrate IC and OOC for 48 hours. Lol. I love JMs. I hope this one will be a good one for both CDs and mission based posts. I know that this is the first time that the H has tried JMing in the IDF, so I'm just hoping for the best here.

The last time I was on LOA during a JM was last April when DS15 simmed with the Sunfire. It ended during my 12 day LOA ... and I did only get to post on the day it started. Luckily the other JMs I did on DS15 turned out MUCH better than that one. I suppose it was a 'learning' experience for me at least, lol.

Re: Joint Missions
The hypothetical scenario of JPing with two of my own characters is somewhat appealing .... but it may be awhile before the H decides to JM with SB10. SB10 is still recovering from 'ground zero' and adjusting to our new CO who joined in early March to settle into her Captaincy. The H will be JMing with the Raptor soon. SB10 will have some CD days before kick starting our Captain's new mission that she has planned for us.

It was impossible for me to consider JPing Willow and my former Leeta because they were stationed on different starbases in the fleet (SB10 and DS15). And since in the simming world starbases only JP with ships it seemed impractical to think of that scenario. But now that DS15 is no longer an active simm what ever I decide to run with Leeta is up in the air ... right now I'm planning on writing some short stories involving her after leaving DS15. Some characters from DS15 (not Leeta, since she would have no legititmate reason to visit) will be temporary visiting this summer for a wedding involving my character there ... since her sister Janice was a long time NPC on DS15, the other character who is scheduled to visit will be Michael St. Martin, who married Janice in September and is by default, Willow's brother-in-law. The same simmer who played Michael on DS15 simms on SB10 as Willow's fiance Lt. Jean-Michael Bourbon, their CCO.
