Jay, Loan Balance/Tax value & how to look them up
Jay,
Thanks for your reply to my other message. I was wondering if you would share how you look up the information you posted. Being new to all this I'd love to learn all I can!

Thanks in advance,
Stacie

-----------your message---------------
Stacie,

It looks like this property might work for someone...Not me, but maybe someone....He borrowed $136k on the house in 12/01....It has a $160k tax value on it...With that being said, he probably owes at least $130k on it. To me, that's not enough equity to call it a real deal.

Please keep in mind, the figures I stated above are all public information and an approximation. I'm not listing anything on this board that can't be found in our local courthouse.

Tax Info
Stacie,

This comes from an internet-based service I use called CRS or Courthouse Retrieval System...You can find it at www.CRSdata.com

It costs about $100 a month for the service, but it keeps me from going to the courthouse everytime someone contacts me about a property for sale. Which, lately, has been about 10-12 a day.

There are other services out there that you can use, but this is the one I've been with for about 4 years now...I know how to use it, and I'm happy with it.

I also have others for other counties, but this one works well for Jefferson....

Ohh yeah, if you sign up, tell 'em I sent you....I think I get $10 or $20 off my bill...Or something like that.

public records
another way to look up records is to go to the court house and ask where the records room is ( it is normally close to the probate office where you get your tags renewed) and go in and they will have all the records on computer where you can look them up. For tax records you may have to ask at the tax collectors desk, but for any mortage records or land records such as deeds you can look them up in the records room. you will need the name of the person that you are trying to look up. They can't search by catagory. and you can probably find the name if you don't have it by looking up the tax records for that address. For this, you may need to ask for some help at the tax office (sometimes called the revenue department). This is definitly not as convienent as jay's site, but does save some money if you are just starting out.
