Invalid_cdkey error
Every server I try to log into on Wild West is giving me the invalid_cdkey message. I bought my copy of rtcw retail, and my cd key works just fine for those servers. The only place it doesn't work is the Wild West game. This is very frustrating.
I have had one other person with this issue, this is what he wrote to me:
I have tried to play online and I get an invalid cd key message even though I have a legit copy of rtcw. It even verifies the key but when I try to play I keep getting a invalid key. Any suggestions?
after some playing around, he fixed the issue, this is what he
wrote:
Thanks for the quick reply. I re-installed wolf just to try this mod. I never tried online wolf prior to trying the mod. After I played one level of wolf and then tried the mod it works fine now!
Is this of help

Re:
The problem still persists. I played through some of wolfesnstien, both multiplayer and single. =(
..
I had this problem when I installed the GOTY map pack for some reason.
All I did to fix the problem was delete my c games\return to castle wolfenstein\main\rtcwkey file. Its just a small text file which has part of your cdkey - usually the cause of weird problems like this.
When I went back into rtcw it obviously asked me to type in my cdkey and ever since then its been fine.
ok I'll give you the full rundown of this issue and how to fix it:
Option 1 (from a clean install of RtCW) install RtCW & Patch
to 1.41, run wolf & enter your CD key.
Run Wolf and join a standard wolf server play for a few
minutes (if you can't join a Wolf game, it means you have
a problem with your RtCW install rather than a WW one)
Exit wolf, and find the "rtcwkey" file in your "main" folder
which is in your "RtCW" folder.
Right click this file, and select "read only". Start WildWest,
and DO NOT enter your CD key from within ANY mods.
You should now be able to join WW servers without any
problem
Option 2 (wolf is already installed)
Find your "rtcwkey" file in your "main" folder and delete it, if
you also have one in your WW folder, delete that too.
Now start wolf, & enter your CD key when asked (NOT from
within WW).
You should now be able to join WW servers without any
problem
To sum up, you should not have a "rtcwkey" file in any mod
folder.
ie, you should never enter your CD-Key from within a mod.
Making the file "read only" ensures that it works all the time,
and you will never need to re-enter your CD-Key again.
Re: invalid cd_key
I tried setting the key file to read only but was still getting to above mentioned error. I think the GOTY map pack does something. I have to reinstall and check if it creates another main folder.
Re: invalid cd_key
are you sure you made the key read only, when it was working ?
Obviously, if you set it to read only when it wasn't working,
then its never gona work
Follow the instructions carefully, and only make the file
read only, after you have sucsessfully joined a normal Wolf
server.
