Advertising... a job that you love to hate or hate to love but in the end, if you love what you're doing, you'll still love it... Man I'm dead tired... Tonite's gonna be another late nite... c'est la vie...

advertising is one of the few jobs with total satisfaction cause when u see ur creative presented to the masses, u'll be proud to say, yeah... that's my work out there...
but the hell u go through, u'll always wonder if it really is worth all that.

SB, yeah, i'm an ae.. one word before i continue with the exp thing. u have to love advertising, have the damn passion for it. like IA said, it's the damn satisfaction and pride when u see ur work published or on air, or on the billboards.
wat's behind the satisfaction is all the hards shitty work with fucked up clients. As creative ppl don't really deal with the clients, it's the ae's that gets the first hand shit and all before handing it down to creative.
my experience? well work smart, work hard, and make sure u play hard too. be prepared to sacrifice ur social life. be very prepared, cause u never know when u have to stay in after work, with last minute shitz, cause clients have a habit of calling you only at bloody 4.30pm and want something by 9am the next day. so u have to stay back and work ur ass of for the client. and come 9.30am, once ur settled, another client will call and ask for your help too.. that's just a scenario. it can get worse, or it can get better.
So far, i've been lucky. only occasions that i actually have to work late. on normal days i actually get to leave the office by 7pm. late can be 48 hours non-stop.. which usually happens when the deadline is near, and especially if u have post production. and i tell you, as an ae, ur not really doing much, merely waiting for creative to finish the work, and double checking that everything that u brief them is all there.
so as an ae, ur literally a 'delivery boy/girl', u wait and wait and wait , and u can't do anything else cause ur on standby, so yamcha far away from the office is out of the question. u'll prob have to ask ur bf to come to ur office area to have dinner with you most of the time. ur only really an advertising person once u start moving up, as then u'll have to think strategic campaigns and stuff. more stress less work, not fun too...
as an ae, there's also alot of sucking up to do.. the most important thing that i learnt is to be able to make ur client look good (meaning provide her with all her materials for presentation and manja them kau kau), so when ur client presents her/his shit to higher management she get's praised. when ur client looks/feels good, it's a hell lot easier on your work to getting approvals and stuff, trust me
i know i'm throwing things all over the place.. but advertising is kinda like that, ur all over the place
