I'm off to musics midtown
Guys, I'll be back on Monday. Weather permitting, I'll be seeing Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, John Fogerty, Robert Randolph and the family band among a host of others.

I'm back alive and well, and WHAT A SHOW!
I only really paid the money for Tom Petty, John Fogerty, and Robert Randolph and the Family band. First, a quick rundown of the bands I saw.
Friday Night
Interpol
Counting Crows
Saturday Night
Mofro
Robert Randoph and the Family Band
John Fogerty (CCR lead singer)
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Sunday Night
Enobi
DEVO
It rained on me pretty steadily all weekend. The tropical storm was, fortunately, all rain and no lightning. Friday night was weird. Interpol sucked heavily. Within the first five minutes, I knew that the soundguys on these stages are on crack and that truly was the theme all weekend. Counting Crows was something I'll never forget. The lead singer of the band moped around on the stage and from the first second I saw him I though he had just been through a bad breakup or his father/mother had died or something. The performance was good, but there was too much mindless jamming involved. Turns out, the lead singer told us 10 minutes before the end of the show that he had had a call 5 minutes before going on stage that his best friend had just had a heart-attack and died. BUZZ KILL... Ate french toast at IHOP at 2 AM. Booked the wrong hotel so rooms weren't that cool. Went to bed at 4 AM.
Saturday
I missed American Minor whom I wanted to see, but I guess it was no big loss. Took a trip to the john after ditching rest of party and then began the long trek up to the front of the crowd. At 4:15 I was 5 people back (Mofro on stage) from front center. People left as soon as Robert Randolph left stage. Just a note: Robert Randolph is a certifiable Jimi Hendrix guitar god. He complained of problems with the soundguys, and it was obvious the guys manning the boards were drunk or stupid or both. He played Billie Jean by MJ. When he saw that we (the people at the front of the crowd) was into the music and knew the words, he sent his mic into the crowd. Specifically, the mic ended up right next to me. In short, I and 3 other people got to sing Billie Jean is not my lover over the PA. Very Sweet. Once again, his music is fun and the band is soooooo tight. They all ended up switching instruments over and over again. Very very very cool. By the time John Fogerty got up on stage I was on the rail in the center. The rain was soaking me even with a poncho on. John Fogerty is one of my favorite performers. I love CCR and his show was almost totally CCR songs. Just a wonderful performance. Tom Petty came on 15 minutes late (very strange since he is always on time) and quit 30 minutes early which cut his set down to just an hour and fifteen minutes. He was visibly angry at the way his sound was mixed, the volume of the PA (way too low) and the fact that the country stage was way too close and drowned out the stage. His performance in itself was amazing and everything I hoped. I was closer than any other person in the audience to him and John Fogerty. There is no other way to watch a concert than from up that close. Ate stuffed french toast with blueberry topping at IHOP and got to bed at 3AM.
Sunday
I only actually saw two artists, DEVO and unfortunately Enobe. DEVO is of course weird and different. Seeing 50 year old men in spandex singing WHIP-IT with flowerpots on their heads was a little disturbing but was entertaining.
Overall, this was probably my second favorite Midtown lineup musically. My favorite was 2003. They had 2 less stages this year which was a drag since they often had the music I liked on it, but it was still worth the 75 bucks.

DEVO...? The "Whip it" guys? I didn't know they were still around.
Glad you enjoyed the show and had a good time.
