Point-Release Version 7.0 is very near and it includes a new foundation of web standards for better support, stability and customization.
For the point release, the changes affect The Control Center, Customizable Profile and our ezboard Web Site. The boards will adopt this in the near future, allowing for faster loading times and endless customization.
UPGRADING YOUR BROWSER IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Although 7.0 is backward compatible with older browsers, your experience will be greatly enhanced if you make sure the browser you are using is a standards-compliant browser. Incidentally, upgrading will benefit your experience all over the internet (faster, more stable, better-looking), not just at ezboard.
The following browsers are all FREE and recommended:
How do I upgrade again?
Click the browser links in this topic based on what kind of software you prefer.
Can I install more than one browser?
Yes. In fact you can run multiple browsers at once. So if you use IE 5 and want to check out Netscape 7, you can do so without affecting your favorite browser.
What about all my bookmarks?
When you upgrade to a new version of the same browser (i.e., IE5 to IE6), all bookmarks are kept. All browsers recommended have an import bookmarks/favorites feature – although most of them will do this automatically upon installation.
I use the browser/software my ISP (e.g., Earthlink, etc…) gave me. Can I upgrade?
Yes. Software packages that come with your ISP usually come with a browser that was available at the time. Your internet connection is independent of this browser. It’s just like using an email program. Some prefer one over another but will all work as long as your connection works.
I have a slow connection, downloading a new browser will take forever. Opera makes a very decent browser (IE, Mozilla and Netscape still offer better standards support at this time) which can be as small as 3.4MB for windows and 2MB for MAC.
My System is old and slow, will any of these handle it?
Once again, Opera is a great solution to this problem. Opera will run on old systems with not much processing power and RAM.
I run Linux!
Then you probably know EXACTLY what you are doing ;) . Incidentally text-only browsers like LYNX will be able to access content much easier with web-standards than with legacy HTML code.
What about other internet devices - e.g., Palm Pilots?
Accessing on these devices will render a perfectly legible and accessible site without the complex formatting that is only practical on high resolution/high color displays. Try it!
Upgrade? No way, I like my current browser and I am not changing!
That’s ok too. Netscape 4 is an example of particularly inferior browser product that some people still use. These users will see a text format that is fully legible and functional – but no bells and whistles or graphics.
