I simply admire you
Merry meet all,

I'm an eclectic Wiccan who's been carving out my path by taking whatever good influences there are in various religions--Wiccan ritual, Hindu theology, Spirualist afterlife and the Christian idea of a personal relationship of love with Deity. I'm not a Christian Wiccan, but I'm close enough.

I first encountered Christian Wicca on Mystic Wicks, when I met a woman trying to merge Wicca and Catholicism. I saw her being bashed all over there, and it was just horrible. Ever since, I have only the deepest admiration for those who walk the path of Christian Wicca. You're a brave lot, you're made of special stuff--it takes special people to walk a path that's regularly bashed by both sides, not only fundamentalist Christians but also ostensibly tolerant pagans.

You can find a dime a dozen of pagan websites and boards where they "prove", using Wiccan principles and a few selected Bible verses, that Wicca and Christianity can't be combined. What those people don't realise is that they're giving the fundamentalists the victory by letting them define the core of Christianity. I used to be a hater of Christianity, because all I saw was the fire-insurance scam ("believe or burn", "get out of hell free by accepting Jesus"). It was only when I looked beyond the gospel that I saw the treasures inside: the idea that God is a Person who loves and wishes to be loved, the character of Jesus dining with the sinners, so contrastive to the Christians of today, the idea that God has lowered Himself to our level by becoming a man so that we could have a relationship with Him. Beyond the fire and brimstone preaching, Christianity has a lot of treasures.

And Christianity and Wicca are closely related. On the one hand, Gardner took a lot out of Christian occultism, and on the other, Christianity itself is a half-pagan religion, with the formative events of Jesus (Virgin Birth, Underworld Descent, Resurrection) having been copied bodily from ancient pagan mythology. Christian Wicca is far more sensible when you think about it that way. And I think Shadwynn's article, The Christ and the Craft, lays it out superbly.

In short, I wanted to give you a message of encouragement. I think you're doing a great thing, and I'd always love to defend your path. May the Triune God be with you always. Blessed be!

:rollin Merry Meet Heathen Dawn. I just read your post and wanted to thank you for supporting this path. We need more peole like you in this world! At times it can be difficult when you have people bashing you trying *cough* to prove that this path is wrong. It is their right to disagree but there is a differance between that and not being tolerant of other people. I have seen it enough that now I have the attitude of So what? Obviously Christianity and Wicca can be merged because it has been done and those who walk this path are living proof of it. I just have to wonder why Christian Wicca threatens others in the Pagan Community...seems to me that these folks have issues of insecurity. We all have the right to follow our own path to the Divine. I for one, will not allow anybody to stop me from being on this path. They just have to get over it already lol!

Brightest Blessings,
LadyMoonDragon
