I NEED A MORE BALANCED NUTRITIONAL PLAN
Darrin

I've just got out of hospital with a kidney infection, and this may to too much information but I had an xray done on my stomach and i'm soooo constipated its untrue!

I'm not eating at moment as I'm still vomiting (i'm feeling terrible!) but I know my keto diet has to stop. I need more fibre in my diet and i'd rather be rounder and healthy than leaner and sick:x

Any pointers on what split I should intake, i haven't done carbs for quite some time now and I'm a bit stuck at where to start?

Re: I NEED A MORE BALANCED NUTRITIONAL PLAN
Ohhhh sorry to hear that Gail:x I am no Darrin, but I will have a shot;) Gail you know that I am more into balanced lifestyle..be it food, training or general life..Extreme training and dieting is just that...for certain period only. I am sure LA would tell you how hard it is on the body and mind to get into shape she will come for Nationals...Anabolic and keto diets are fantastic, but not for 6 months continuosly etc...especially for the female (hormones etc.) I can get fairly lean and stay that way on 40P/30C/30F roughly.(actually last time when I was strict I got down to 11%) 30% of carbs allows me to get plenty of fibrous and some starchy veg, 1-2 small portions of low GI fruit like berries, kiwi, orange etc. and a bit of starch like oats, brown rice or sweet potato. And I even get Post workout High GI carbs too into that plan...My fat comes mostly from EFA's..I generally do not cook with fat...
Maybe you just want to start slow and introduce green veg like asparagus,spinach(steamed-not raw) variety of salad greens plus tomato and cucumber. I would stay away from broccoli, cauliflower-it might just cause bloating-not something you need right now:( Get some berries into you too-make yourself berry+whey+ground flax seed(flax meal) shake 2x per day -that would be the easiest way to get some low carb, high fibre nutritious meal into you;) Drink as much as you can Hon:D
I know you are not too crazy about dairy,so I would recomend you start with probiotics and enzymes too...Check with David See- he is out there with his knowledge so maybe you want to bug him and send him PM...i am sure he will be more then happy to help;)

Metabolic Typing
Gail,

Sorry about taking so long to blog but somehow I missed this thread the past couple of weeks.

Unfortunately the ethics of the personal training profession prohibits us from prescribing diets for people suffering with medical conditions. Having said that I can point out some things that might help you look in the right direction for information necessary in making sound decisions for yourself.

Although a lot of nutritional information applies to every person on the planet there are individual needs that go beyond what traditional nutritionists address. The way we metabolize foods varies from person to person depending on genetic predispositions. Generally people whose ancestors come from Northern climates process carbohydrates very efficiently and require relatively little of them to do well. The Inuit (Eskimos) for instance can go without carbs for months without any ill effects. Conversly, people who trace their family trees back to the tropics tend to process protein efficiently and can get by with less of it but will get sick if they restrict carbs for too long. Because the human species has been highly migratory for the last few hundred years, no one outside the royal families can know for sure where their ancestors come from. To decide what your metabolic type is you need to be assessed. From there you will be given guidelines to make decisions appropriate for your genetic propensities.

I suggest you look up Mercola.com and do his metabolic typing test. You can also read his articles on kidney infections and constipation for more in depth understanding. If you want to deal with someone one-on-one look for a CHEK Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach in your area. There's a list of CHEK Practitioners on the CHEK Institute website. www.chekinstitute.com/
I'm not on that list because I haven't set up an independent practice yet; it's a goal I'm working towards.

Good luck and good health

Re: Metabolic Typing
Thanks for info David, very interesting.

I'm back into my training now, i've lost a few pounds of muscle mass and gained some fat, but i'm healthier than I have been, lots of energy, and ready to kick ass again!

I am going to concentrate on getting stronger in the gym again before addressing my diet too much, making the most of eating lots of fruit and veggies :D
