my impacted life
Hello Everyone,

I cannot begin to convey how CHC has not only touched my life and my kids but how deep I feel the love of almost everyone who calls CHC their home. I feel so blessed to be involved with this church community and look forward to just hanging out at the HUB, a place I have to drag my kids away from whenever we are there. It's so nice to be open and yourself and know that you will still be loved and where you can worship God 24/7 and literally feel His love as soon as you walk through the door. After being brought up Catholic then having a mom turn you to Jehovah Witness, it is so freeing to actually make sense of what God has in store for His followers and not to live in doubt any longer. My life is 100% easier knowing I have God and his wonderful people on my side and as a big support group that fills my cup with every gathering whether big or small.
Thank God for Canyon Hills!!!

How God has impacted my life at Canyon Hills?
The other night at the Prayer Concert, we were asked what we are thankful for at Canyon Hills Church. As people shouted out some awesome things, I had several thoughts running through my head, great friends, great music, great messages etc. But what really hit me was the change for me and my family that took us (ok me) from sitting on the sidelines to getting into the game.

When we starting coming to Canyon Hills, I was kind of into the God thing and my kids knew the word God but we sort of tagged along with mommy to Church. I am thankful that John Reed proved to be approachable and not intimidating. I’m thankful that he was very patient and answered a lot questions in an open and honest fashion. I’m thankful that I have a group of friends that help guide me and push me and support me in my new walk. I’m thankful that my kids have budding relationships with God. I’m thankful that my youngest son stops us at restaurants to pray before eating and my oldest asks God to help him have a good day. I’m thankful that my wife has the opportunity to engage and participate in important projects. I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve awesome kids. Thank God for Canyon Hills!

Our family is in the game and we are so blessed because of that. I see Terra Nova as a way move the game to the next level. At the Prayer Concert, we talked about our fears and the “floor dwellers” (you know who you are) talked about some real fears, how much will we have to sacrifice, will we be able to live up to our commitments, can we trust others to live up to theirs, will we take on too much too soon as a community, will we lose our way… But at the end of the night, it was obvious that the only solution was to jump in and get involved. As long as we were getting something out of the journey and connecting with others that were in for the long haul, we would be so much better off.

I hope Terra Nova brings new challenges for us to tackle and new successes for us to celebrate. I hope we bring new people to God, sprout budding relationships for kids with God, and bring new opportunities for people to serve, learn and grow. I hope we continue to build our base of friendships and community and make all this available to anyone who is willing to get off the sidelines and join us.

In more ways than I can list
My first day at Canyon Hills I met John Reed. My second time we talked a bit more. He asked me what I did for a llving, and I explained I was a graphic designer. I could see the wheels spinning in his head. "We need to talk" he told me.

At that point in my journey with God, I was wondering how I could get involved in a church. The church I came from was much larger, and there seemed few opportunities to make a difference. Canyon Hills was smaller, younger, and had a scrappy "underdog" feel to it. I recently heard Rob Yackley describe his first visit to Canyon Hills many years ago, as a church that was "either on the edge of failure or greatness." Yep, I could see that. Just like Rob, it's one of the things I loved about Canyon Hills.

Canyon Hills has since embraced my family and I, in more ways than I could hope to list here.

There were the meals we received from the Married with Children LIFEgroup, when Natalie was born . We had only been coming to Canyon Hills for a couple of months, and didn't know anyone. No one had ever done anything like this for us. It was clear that—quite literally—this church was reaching it's hands out around us.

My kids have grown closer to God through this church, thanks to Klubhouse Kids. I'm seeing Christ forming in them.

Sophia and I have built deep, meaningful friendships here. People who would do anything for us. People who HAVE done anything for us. When Sophia was diagnosed with a thyroid tumor, and we faced an uncertain prognosis, our LIFEgroup rallied around us. Through more kids being born, financial hardships, family tragedy... it's hard to imagine going through ANY of that without our friends here at Canyon Hills.

And for me, Canyon Hills has been a place where I have been able to get out of the bleachers and onto the field. I've been able to live out God's plan for my life here, and often in unexpected ways. God has grown me into roles that I never dreamed I'd step into. Project Mexico. Director's Team. And now, going on staff at Canyon Hills... it's so far outside of where I saw myself just a short time ago, yet I can see it's exactly where God wants me to be right now.

I am deeply thankful for what God has done for me and my family through Canyon Hills.
