Home Economics 101
Gabrian paced the marble hallways of his cleric guild in Felwithe, stopping occasionally to beat his fist against the cold wall.

I wasn't going to do it. I swore that I wouldn't!

But I guess I have to.

He had just returned from a meeting with his guildmaster. The meeting was long overdue, actually, and when Gabrain stepped into the audience chamber, his master's eyes widened at the difference in Gabrian's demeanor and stature since the last time they'd met.

"Gabrian, old friend! You've grown."

"Yes, master, I've been busy throughout the land bringing relief to the suffering, and strength to the fighters of truth and nature."

His master lifted an eyebrow.

"Well, actually, I usually breeze through town to buy peridots, and don't take the time to stop in to visit."

"I see you have your faithstone of Tunare, and it glows with her blessing. You'll be visiting me more often now, eh? For most clerics, the stone is no more than a symbol, sitting atop their fireplaces, reminding them of their profession and goddess. In your hands, its radiant life shows that you have found her favor. Well done."

"Thank you master."

"Wait, what are you wearing on your shoulder?"

Gabrian looked to his shoulder fondly. "An obulus death shroud, master."

"Unbelievable! You mean you haven't begun your sojourn to Velious to visit the ice dwarves? Don't you know that they can bestow to you a prayer shawl that will help you meditate and make your beneficial prayers last longer?"

"Yes, master, but..."

"But nothing! You are to obtain one of these if you ever hope to rise in our order!"

"But I'm all thumbs. I understand you have to cook, and mend, and sow, and smith. My place is in the battle, not doing silly tasks!"

"You will do the shawl quests. I don't care how long it takes. In the end, the result will be worth your effort, and you'll thank me for this later. Dismissed."

Cook and mend and sow. Surely there are better ways to advance in the order. I'll show him, though. I'll take my time. I'll get that shawl, but if it takes a year, it takes a year...

...And it came to pass that Gabrian worked on his shawls, but was at once set upon by a terrible demon, whose true name was 'Tendonitis the Destroyer.' The battle rages on, and only time will tell if Gabrian has the dedication and fortitude to overcome this foul beast....
