Here's my (unfinished) fanfic.
What do you all think?
"Welcome to Ponyland!" said Spike as he showed the dainty light pink pony out of Daydream Castle. "Thanks Spike" she replied softly. Spike watched as she trotted away gracefully, until she was out of sight. Then he went up the pink marble stairs to see Majesty. "So what do you think of her Spike?" Majesty asked of the little purple dragon. "She seems nice and she definitely suits her name," he replied carefully. "What makes you say that?" Majesty asked curiously "Well she does seem very mysterious, didn't you think so?" Spike said a little embarrassed Majesty looked at him for a long time without replying "I suppose she was a little mysterious…" she said reluctantly.
As Hidden Mist stepped through the door of her new house the black veil covering the eyes of her symbol lifted magically. She sighed happily at the comfortable surroundings she had been given by Majesty. She wondered round the rooms making a few minor adjustments to personalise the place. First she went into the small, neat, white and yellow kitchen where she changed the flimsy white net curtains for yellow ones made of a more solid material. Next she toured the large peach dining room where she thought the oak table was a little too big. The living room was a spacious pale blue area with two big comfortable couches; Hidden Mist shook her head at these and transformed them into one smallish couch and two individual chairs. She left most of the upstairs rooms as she found them but she changed her own bedroom quite drastically. She painted the walls light lilac, put up dark violet curtains and added a fairly see through blue veil around her bed. She sighed again "Much better!"
"Hey Chief! Did you know that there's a new mare in the valley?" Asked Ice Crystal. "Really? No I hadn't seen her. What's she like?" Chief asked interestedly. "Yeah there is. I dunno what her name is though, she's pale pink with pale blue hair, and it’s got a pale purple streak. Her symbol looks like a pair of eyes with a black veil over them. She's really pretty," Ice Crystal said keenly. A few of the other stallions said that they had seen this new mare too. Chief suddenly got very interested in this pale coloured filly "Any idea where she lives?" he asked the crowd. There was a general murmur of descent "In that case we'll have to get the girls to throw her a Welcome party!" "Yeah" cheered Lightening who was always up for a party.
"Hey, BP, got a minute?" Lightening called to Birthday Pony. "Lightening," Birthday Pony said, her voice dripping with icy disapproval, "I have told you time and time again not to call me BP, it’s so vulgar." "Alright, alright," Lightening replied scathingly, "Birthday Pony have you got a minute?" 'This is it' Birthday Pony thought 'he's finally going to ask me out. He's finally noticed how much I like him.' "Sure," she said trying to sound nonchalant. Lightening smiled, "It's just that we need you to throw a welcome party for this chick that Ice Crystal says is really pretty. And since you are the best party planner in the whole of Daydream Valley, we thought you'd be the best to ask." Birthday Pony's face fell but she recovered quickly and smiled, "Sure, I can plan a simple welcome party. When do you want it? Where should we hold it? What's this chick’s name and how many people do you want to invite?" She fired her customary questions at him with professional speed. "Alright we'll have it in two weeks, I don't care where we have it; somewhere big, dunno what the girl's called and invite everyone! It's going to be one major party!" 'Oh he is so cute' Birthday Pony thought 'trying to sound like he's been planning parties all his life…' "Wait a second," she said suddenly, "you don't even know her name? What am I supposed to put on the invites?!" Lightening looked mildly concerned at this, then his eyes lit up and he said, "Simple! Ask Majesty what the new girl's called." Birthday Pony shook her head and sighed.
After Lightening had left, Birthday Pony phoned her friends Confetti and Masquerade. They both promised to come over right away; when they arrived Birthday Pony explained what had happened (they both already knew about her feelings for Lightening). "Oh you poor thing," Confetti said sympathetically. "So, just don't invite this girl to her party and Lightening wont get to meet her. Easy as pie," said Masquerade who was the spiciest of the three friends. "I can't," moaned Birthday Pony, "my reputation would be ruined and I'd never get any work." "Oh you poor thing," repeated Confetti who was at a loss. "Look, the guy hasn't even seen this chick yet, he might decide he hates her," said Masquerade who was getting slightly irritated by the whole damsel in distress act. "Yeah, but I know he still won't notice how I feel," said Birthday Pony who was getting more and more depressed. "So tell him, before I do the honours for you," threatened Masquerade.
Nice 'n' Spicy and 4-speed were curled up together in 4-speed's living room watching a movie. As the end credits rolled, she said quietly "So, I hear there's a new girl in town, and that she's really pretty…" she trailed off leaving the unspoken question hanging in the air. "Yeah, I've seen her, I must admit she is pretty hot," 4-speed said truthfully. This wasn't the answer Nice had wanted to hear "So do you think she'll be interested in you?" she asked acidly. 4-speed paused "I hope not," he said not noticing Nice’s tone "I hate having to turn girls down." Nice smiled, satisfied, and nuzzled her head back against 4-speed's light blue shoulder.
"Hi Quarterback," said Sundance. "Heya Sundance," the massive blue pony replied sounding miserable. "What's wrong?" Sundance asked immediately. "Not much, it's just that there's this new mare around, and I really like her, well, that is, I haven't talked to her but she's really pretty…" Quarterback answered. "Yeah…and?" questioned Sundance patiently "Well, there's this party for her, a disco type thing, I think, and I was planning on, you know, asking her to dance…" he trailed off again. "That's great Quarterback, so what went wrong?" Sundance said, still patiently as she was used to Quart (as she affectionately called him) taking a while to get things out, especially if it was about a girl. "Well, it's just that I heard Tornado telling Barnacle that he was planning on going after her. Which means I'll have no chance," he finished sounding heartbroken. "That's not true at all, she might not like Tornado, and even if he does try for her you can ask her to dance afterwards. She's not going to commit to him after one night. It's not like Tornado will get mad at you just for dancing with her." Sundance said, knowing how much Quart hated people to be mad at him. Quarterback perked up a little at this and he settled back into his usual self.
Hidden Mist heard the postman walk up to her door and drop something through the letter box, she waited for five minutes to make sure he wouldn't see her then went to get the post. She expected the usual; junk mail, newspaper and maybe a letter from her little sister but she found a large, rose coloured envelope. She bent to pick it up and opened it carefully. What came out looked suspiciously like an invitation. It was, an invitation to a welcome party, a welcome party for her, which meant she couldn't get out of it.
"Great news Pretty Beat," enthused Tuneful, "we've got a gig!" Pretty Beat's ears perked up, "Where? When? Why?" Tuneful laughed, "The main hall at Daydream castle, it's in just under a week, and it's a welcome party for this new girl called Hidden Mist." Pretty Beat's grin faded, "It's in just under a week? I hope they don't expect any new stuff. It's a good job we've been practising for that Battle of the Bands contest." Tuneful grinned at Pretty Beat's nervous expression, "We'll be fine Pretty Beat. We are the best band in Daydream valley after all." Pretty Beat didn't look satisfied but she smiled weakly all the same.
Hidden Mist walked into the ‘Curls and Combs’ beauty parlour with a nervous expression on her face. Fifi came rushing up to her, “Hello dear! Welcome to Ponyland, I thought we’d be seeing you in here either today or tomorrow. Your Welcome party’s coming up isn’t it? I really expected you tomorrow…?” Hidden Mist’s eyes widened in slight alarm at Fifi’s exuberance but she muttered, “I wanted to avoid any crowds” She had a slight accent that Fifi couldn’t quite place but she laughed, a high tinkling laugh, “Well you certainly managed it. The place is dead at the moment.” Hidden Mist nodded and Fifi ushered her to a chair. “So what do you want done? Something very impressive I suppose, as it’s the first time a lot of the ponies will have seen you.” Hidden Mist considered she had never really bothered about these things before; she always wore her hair straight down, usually hiding part of her face. “I don’t really have any definite idea.” Fifi grinned; she liked ponies that gave her a free rein. “Well you could have a high plaited bun, that always looks very glamorous.” Fifi posed and then gasped. “What’s wrong?” asked Hidden Mist panic stricken. Fifi laughed, “Nothing at all, but I’ve just had a very intriguing idea. Your symbol is a black veil and I was just wondering if you’d be interested in having a black veil hanging from the edge of the bun, covering your face.” Hidden Mist’s eyes lit up, “Oh that sounds perfect. It would just be so; well I’m not sure what word I want. So…me!” Fifi laughed delightedly, “I’m glad I came up with something you like so much!”
Hidden Mist didn’t have a very good night the night before the party. Not due to excitement or nervousness but because she had to keep her head up to avoid messing up her newly done hair. Fifi had promised to come round the next morning and check it was all right, fix any effects of sleeping on it and add the finishing touches but Hidden Mist was still very wary.
The next morning Daydream Valley was very busy; everypony was rushing around to their friend’s houses to get ready for the party. The mountain boys gathered together in Chief’ s fire station, the Rockin’ Beats were busy practicing and other groups of friends were in various places.
Birthday Pony, Confetti and Masquerade were gathered in Masquerade’s costume shop talking. “So are you going to ask Lightening to dance at this party then?” Masquerade asked Birthday Pony. “Of course I’m not! I’m supposed to be organizing the party, I’ll have to see to the food and the decorations and…” “And now you’re just stalling and you know it!” Masquerade shot back. “Don’t you agree ‘Fetti?” demanded Masquerade. “Well, I don’t know, what harm can it do to just ask him Birth?” Birthday pony scowled at Confetti and Masquerade. “Though if you’re too scared…” Masquerade taunted. “I’m not scared,” Birthday burst out “I just think it’s awfully impractical, but if you insist I’ll ask him!” Masquerade smiled “You do that then Birth…” Birthday’s eyes widened as she realized what she had set herself up for.”
As the first few guest started to trickle in under the 'WELCOME TO DAY-DREAM VALLEY' banner Birthday Pony was attempting to forget about what she had to do by organizing as much as she could. Her brain was spinning partly from the all the details of the music, the food, the decorations and partly from panic. She couldn't do it she just couldn't do it! But she had to! She had said she would and if she backed out now Masquerade would know why. OH! Blast that overly confident yellow pony! She closed her eyes and took a deep calming breath, she would do it, she would!
The mountain boy ponies all arrived together and immediately demanded that the music be turned up. "Is she here yet?" yelled Chief to anyone who might be listening. Birthday Pony approached him "Nope not yet, so what do you think of the party?" The last part of her sentence was mainly aimed at Lightening so the other stallions drifted away towards the few girls who hadn't planned to arrive "stylishly late". "It looks like it might be a hit," Lightening yelled over the loud music. Birthday Pony was just working up the nerve to say 'Will you save me a slow dance?' when someone called her saying there was an emergency. 'DAMN!' she thought.
Hidden Mist walked slowly into the huge hall and suddenly the whole place fell silent, she gulped “Hello everyone,” she smiled shyly in Quarterback’s direction. He looked friendly, she was just about to walk over to him when a large, exuberant blue clysdale started came up to here and asked her if she wanted to dance.
