Game Recap - 7/19/04
Gah...we've entered that terrible cycle where when one thing goes right, another goes wrong. I was kind of hoping we could avoid that. Especially against the Fish.
*Scott Erickson looked pretty good after a two year absence. I was hoping he could've lasted one more inning...don't really see why Art felt the need to pull him, but it was his first ML start in a long time. At any rate, can't fault him for that performance - it was nice work, from beginning to end. Too bad the pen couldn't hold it for him.
*Mike Cameron appears to be on one of his up swings - looking good out in the field, hoovering up everything that comes his way. Nice.
*Nice hitting by Shane Spencer to put us on the board with a three run homer!
*Also some VERY nice hitting by Jose Reyes. Getting on base every single time and the heads up swipe of third...now that's what we were all hoping for. Way to go, Jose!
*Some nifty defensive work from our fledgling first baseman...a couple of eye popping stretches and a nice grab over the dugout railing. Add in getting on base a few times and putting up an RBI and it was a pretty good night all around for Mike - for a change.
*Well, I suppose it was bound to happen - Orber Moreno and Braden Looper have been almost automatic, I suppose they were both due to fall to earth. I just wish it hadn't been on the same night - and against the Fish. Typical Met luck.
Well, that ratchets up the intensity for tonight. We've got to come out of this with at least a split. With the race this tight, there's only so much ground you can afford to give up. Hopefully, everyone brushes that off and comes back out hitting on all cylinders tonight. Onward and upward, guys....
LET'S GO METS!!!!
Like soldiers in the winter night with a vow to defend, No retreat, and baby...NO SURRENDER!!!
