Game Recap - 7/15/04
Man, I thought we were going to blow that one! Once again, we were searching for one run and coming up empty. Wiggy keeps making a case for himself, and making the Mets decision that much harder, but under the circumstances I'll take it.

*Trax was looking really good there until he hit a brick wall, gave up a homer to Abreu and then loaded the bases. Fortunately, the pen was there to back him up. :p

*Speaking of which, MAJOR kudos to Orber Moreno for getting the job done and getting us out of a jam. Nice pitching! :2thumbs

*Kudos to Wiggy for being one of the few people in the lineup to make consistent contact, especially driving in the winning run. :woot

*Nice at bat by Jose Reyes, sticking with the pitcher and fouling off about 10 pitches, but I'm worried about him on the basepaths - he looks really, really tentative. Is that just extra caution or is he hurting? Either way, it's bothersome. And someone has GOT to teach him not to look back when he runs...just GO! :bolt

*Speaking of bothersome...sigh. Mike just can't seem to get it together at the plate, though I did see another couple of flashes last night...a couple of good swings among the dreck, and what should've been a line drive up the middle which almost took the pitcher's hand off. Hopefully, it's a sign. And at least he can still draw a walk - what turned out to be a key walk, as a matter of fact. But it's time to drop him from the #3 spot. If nothing else, flip-flop him with Hidalgo - they could both use the change. :oy

*Nice work by Shane Spencer in his first start at first for the Mets. Don't know what's up with the revolving door at first, but at least everyone's handling it well.

So, we pulled off the win despite the stumbles and we're just one back. Who'd have thought we'd be saying that at this point? Let's just hope the front office is watching and something good is coming within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, the guys on the field need to keep getting the job done...one step at a time.

LET'S GO METS!!! :blob2 :blob2 :blob2 :blob2

Like soldiers in the winter night with a vow to defend,
No retreat, and baby...NO SURRENDER!!!
