Fret Buzz
My LP has a terrible fret buzz on the high e at the 5th fret only. New strings hasn't helped. Fret is still smooth. There were no major changes done that might have caused the problem. Any ideas on what is up??

Buzzing at the 5th fret, like when you play an 'A' on the high E string and it's buzzing against the 6th?
You said the fret is still smoth, but the only thing I can think of is the fret wore down a little, just enough for it to happen.. Otherwise, maybe the truss rod needs a little tweaking? You've mentioned to me before that the weather gets humid in your area so that may be a possibility.
If not the neck, maybe the saddle wore out a bit and you need to replace or raise it..?

Look very closely at the frets above the 5th while fretting at the 5th. It may not be the 6th buzzing. If you live in a relatively humid location a fret may have been raised a tiny bit due to the wood expanding and contracting. Or as Mike said, the bridge saddle may be a little worn and may need raising. Did this just suddenly start or has it been happening for a while and gradually gotten worse? Did you change to a different string reciently?

Re: Fret Buzz
I would check the fret itself and see if it's raised. You can put something like a ruler across it to see if it teeter totters. Also, check the bridge section to see if it's level. Your high E may be lower than your low E, sort of like this if you're looking down at it from the headstock / (not as steep obviously).

It happened suddenly. One day nothing, then the next it was annoyingly obvious. It is very possible it is the weather doing something to the wood since it has been really humid here the past couple of weeks.

Re: Fret Buzz
The only time that I've ever instantly had frets start buzzing was when one of my guitars tipped over and the back of the neck landed onto the bottom of my very solid and very metal mic stand.
Also, you might try looking at the nut and making sure the notches are still as they should be.

Nope, haven't gotten the problem fixed yet, I'm trying to exhaust all options to make sure it isn't user error.

Micah, are you in Georgia, still? The humidity here has been unreal! Your neck might need a truss-rod adjustment. If you take the guitar from an air conditioned place to outside, leave it in the case to let it adjust; don't even open the case. An hour is a good idea, if you can spare the time. If you're gigging, get the thing into your car and get the AC going quickly.
