Favorite Moments in S.E.T.
Okay, S.E.T. recap is a great idea. However, I have no desire to recap this past S.E.T., for whatever reason. So I decided to start a nostalgic new topic called "Favorite Moments in S.E.T."
Basically, just list descriptions of a scene that has stuck in your head for its brilliance or honesty or hilarity. I'll start:
I think Liz Allen's long form workshop class, I forget their name, had a beautiful performance. It was so organic and artistic and funny. The whole thing just blew me away. I don't know if it was because the whole concept of Group Mind was so new to me and I hadn't seen that type of long form before, but there was something about it that was great.
I'm setting the format here: One moment per post. So here's another:
It was very simple, and I think that's why I liked it.
Craig and Tom (I think) were in a scene set in a bar watching football or whatever and talking guy talk. I don't remember what the scene was about; this is the part I remember:
Bridget walked up behind them, very assuredly, with a 'tray' in her hands, set down two 'drinks,' and as she set off with the 'tray' again she said,
"Let me know if you guys need another edit."
Talk about creative editing! I aspire to edit like that.
Re: Favorite Moments in S.E.T.
Remember that time Michael Hartnet called me "TV's Mike Howland"? Yeah, so does everyone else. Oh well, I've had and given much worse nicknames. I bet the Jersey Douche could confirm that.
Re: Favorite Moments in S.E.T.
You dont like SET recap?! nah, this is a good idea, basically i just wanted to remember the best moments of every night but my memory is so bad that i can only bring up what happened at the most recent SET. Let me think..................oh, remember when Paul, Josh, and someone else had a singing scene and Josh sang about quitting picking up dog shit at a park and Paul sang a sad song about how Muffins is gonna miss Josh picking up his shit?
That was an fricken good scene. (and this whole "remember when" stuff reminds me of the Chris Farley sketch on SNL)
Re: Favorite Moments in S.E.T.
Favorite SET moment didn't occur on stage. Being backstage with Veronica before a banana factory show she does the "Keep it tight" move. The BF's will remember that move. I won't go into detail in case there are some 6 year olds who are really interested in las vegas improv, but let's just say that even On the Rocks would have been offended...
And yes, Mike has had worse nicknames. There are a few favorites:
Mike "The Donk" Howland
Ploppin' Mike Howland
Mike "I just got owned in Crimson Skies" Howland
Mike "That was a wet one" Howland
Pangs for the memories...
I have a favorite Pang moment...
There was a scene going on where someone was tripping out. They were talking to their boss or something, and while they were, they were seeing different animals running around the stage. Well, Chris see's all his castmates go out there and start moving around, so he joins them and goes out onto the stage. It's obvious that he doesn't quite know what's going on, and it's at this point that Michael, Tom and myself start busting up. Then, dropping a line like only The Pang can, he puts his arm around the boss's shoulders and says, "This place is full of fishes and weasels and stuff."

Guess this is as good a place to start as any.
I was the other guy in the step out musical scene with Josh and Paul. Hehe.
Memorable moment..Hmm..Gonna have to get back on that.
Re: Pangs for the memories...
I got one!
That super cool hat Josh wore sometime last summer!
Man, that beret/Ben Hogan golf cap made everyone so envious for not having that level of suave sophistication that they roasted him all night about it.
Re: Pangs for the memories...
Favorite SET moment goes way back. It may have even been the first one, but it was a scene between Bridget and Lauren, and they were both mothers cheering on their kids in a pagent, and competing.
It was brilliant and subtle and built nicely, and made me think, they couldn't possibly be making this up.
Also, when someone was pouring tea into people's hands and Josh turned and said "Get out of here, my retarded brother" or something to that effect.
The muffins/ dog poo picker upper singing scene
Hey Jeff, I remembered it was you a bit after I posted it, so dont feel offended if you think I forgot. I was hoping you wouldnt catch that but low and behold it looks like you just got on this thing the same day i posted it. Sorry, my bad

No problem! There have been so many faces at SET that I have trouble remembering ANY scense..much less one that was played so long ago.
Preemptive Favoritism
I wanted to be the first to say that the On The Rocks inaugural performance at S.E.T. tonight was awesome! A classic S.E.T. moment if I ever saw one.
They're gonna rock!!!
I AM SO EXCITED!!! I can't wait to see them, even if at least half the troupe's members are assholes. (I'll give Kevin and Doug the benefit of the doubt.)

"Was" awesome? Thanks for the compliment before we even put the show on. Hopefully we won't disappoint. I will say however, that OTR is not for everyone. I think we should have Pang doing security at the door.

Awww, that's so sweet. Me and Doug aren't assholes. I feel like I've just taken one step up the social ladder. I knew I spent my entire life practicing being nice for a reason, and now I know what it is.
And as an added bonus, we will probably announce this at the SET but since we're all sincity improvisers you guys will have a preview. Don't think that OTR is a one-trick pony. We have already started creating "new" games for the other SET performances. Personally, my favorite game is scheduled for OTR Week 3. We're going to try and keep you guys and gals coming every week. Now that was dirty, spoken like a true On the Rocks member...
p.s. - I'm pretty sure Mike and Reid are the only ones without myspace accounts. That's what makes them assholes. Make sure to bust on Reid for not being cool...
3rd Week
I know the game Enrico is referring to in week 3. Frankly, it's so damn good that right now when we practice it, we can't get through it without laughing hysterically. You'd ve well advised to not miss a week of OTR. Then again, you'd be well advised not to miss any week at the SET.
Re: Fav SET moment
This past monday was filled with some funny shit. Steel toed pimps, a bunch of my former classmates, you guys rocked. I loved the scene where glenn was the chess freak and candace was his daughter and was as psycho as he was but worse and everyone tagged in and at the end it was an elder glenn dealing with his psycho daughter (that ended up killing him)
Also main stage had their eating pork sandwich from toms ass and pauls blue ninja that attacks from the sky... and andys ninja philosophy about wanting amanda to be different corns from the same can.
if you dont know what im talking about, you missed a hell of a night at the set, unfortunately, i will miss the next set
