Father to Daughter, Daughter to Father
"OW!"

*Lyddie landed hard on a dusty floor, next to her father, who was standing upright. Somehow, she had the feeling she wasn't going to want to Apparate again for a long time. She stood, brushed a large amount of dust of her clothes, and looked around. They were standing in a room that looked like it was about to fall apart, the windows boarded, a single bed in one corner. Everything was covered in dust, and below her, Lyddie could see a large imprint of where she had landed.*

"*This* is where we're staying?" *she asked, looking disgusted.*

"It's only temporary," *Mr. H'tarlaw began.* "Just until this whole thing dies do -- "

"I am NOT sleeping on the floor."

"What? What're you talking about?"

"I know what you're thinking, father. And don't try to tell me this curse can't do things like that, because it's a lie. We're connected; I can see these things. You're going to take me back to the Dark Lord, and force me to work for him, me in your incapable hands for education, only learning dark curses and eating away at my heart until my desire to break free is gone, and I won't be able to care about anything except the dark side. Now tell me, father, is that exactly what you want for me? Or is it what you want for yourself?"

*Mr. H'tarlaw's eyes had been growing wider and wider as she spoke, until a look that expressed he had finally given into rage ovbercame his face, and he whipped out his wand, pointing it directly at his daughter's throat. He could see Lyddie's hand creeping towards her back pocket, and in a matter of seconds, they were identical with each other, daughter to father, father to daughter. Mr. H'tarlaw grinned.*

"Going to kill me, Lyddie?" *he asked.*

"It's worth a try," *she replied, her face almost a mirror image of his. They circled once, neither of the two sets of pale blue eyes leaving each other's for a moment. Then...*

"STUPEFY!"

"SERPENTSORTIA!"

*Both spells hit at once -- Mr. H'tarlaw was thrown back against one of the wall and rendered unconcious -- the snake from his own spell shot out of his wand striahgt through the air and attacked Lyddie -- she shrieked as it bit her in the neck, and then again in the hand as she tried to grab it and pull it off -- she pointed her wand at it --* "Finite Incantatem!" *she cried, and the snake disappeared.*

*Lyddie rubbed her neck fiercely where the snake had bitten her -- no doubt it had been poisonous. She had to get out of here...but how? Screaming wouldn't help; that was one of the reasons it was called "The Shrieking Shack". She lifted her wand in her right hand, wondering whether it would be as effective, for her left hand had been damaged in battle, and muttered something, as she couldn't feel her vocal cords working correctly from the bite. Ropes flew out of her wand and bound her father tightly. Flopping down on the bed, she cradled her injured hand, now swelling brutally, tears falling from her eyes.*

"Why..." *she whispered.* "Why us?"

((::fake sniff:: Sad....Wonder if anyone heard anything...))

Re: Father to Daughter, Daughter to Father
*Her muggle instincts overtaking her wizard training, Wren threw herself shoulder first into the boarded up window of the shack. She heard the glass shatter on the other side, but the boards held. She backed up and threw herself at the window once again, breaking the boards and flying (falling?) through the window. She scrammbled to her feet, her wizard training taking over she pulled her wand from her pocket, and brandisehd it before her, first at Lyddies father, then at Lyddie.*

"Ack! WHICH ONE IS A WIZARD! AND WHICH WHITCH IS WHITCH!"

((Ok, bad pun, Sorry I couldn't resist! You make your own doll for that Lyd's!))

Re: Father to Daughter, Daughter to Father
*Lyddie turned her head weakly, and her eyes widened as she saw her friend's eyes peering through the boards.*

"Wren..." *she choked out, for her throat was beginning to swell.* "Wren...get...help...hurry..." *her words grew weaker with every breath.*

((And now, from the view of the Supreme Evil Father, Paul H'tarlaw! Mwahahaha!))

*Mr. H'tarlaw opened his eyes, but only for a moment, for that vile little witch from the hill ((sorry, Wren!)) was standing close. He muttered something, and conjured up a small fire on the tips of his index-and-middle-fingers, holding it close to the rope and feeling it burning through, weakening the bind...soon, he would have his daughter...*

*He heard a small snap as the last bit the rope broke. Immediately, he forgot about pretending, threw off the ropes, and grabbed his daughter, wand in hand the entire time and pointing it at Wren.*

"One word," *he said angrily.* "One. That's all it's going to take, girlie. Go ahead, tell the Professor, I won't care. Little Lyddie here's going to be the one who gets into trouble, see? And there's NOTHING you can do about it! Nothing your or your little friends or those punk@$$ elementist kids can do! Because she's mine!! MINE!!!"

*Clutching Lyddie close with extreme fierceness, he disappeared once more.*

((Okay, he's Apparition-happy, reads people's minds, and is going to turn Lyddie into some sort of I-dunno-what-yet, let's give it up for Paul H'tarlaw! ::watches as no one claps:: My thoughts exactly.))
