EDMONTON (CP) - Edmonton became the first Canadian city Tuesday to make bullying illegal and fine tormentors a minimum of $250. Supporters say they hope the new bylaw will make young people think twice before threatening and intimidating anyone.
Williams also points to a statistic that shows bullying can lead to criminal activity.

Re: Edmonton the anti-gor
The only hate here is that espoused by "goreans" and their fascist and sexist and racist and homophobic beliefs.
Just be glad that you do not live in Edmonton everyone here knows that you could not afford the fines.
Prove me wrong.
At 44 years of age you still read comics?
Well that explains a lot.
Should we delve into the psychological profile of a 44 year old single male that still reads comic books?
Re: Edmonton the anti-gor
Actually "Doc" I have had the hobby of drawing Comix and Annimations since I was 13 years old... I find it most relaxing and very rewarding... you should try something other than Basket weaving sometime...

Alberta: the anti-gorwww.bullyfreealberta.ca/
We all have a role to play in bullying prevention. Bullying behaviour is unacceptable at any time and in any situation - and isn't a normal part of growing up. In fact, bullying can leave scars that last a lifetime.
This website helps parents, teens and community members take control of this issue by giving them the tools they need to prevent or intervene in a bullying situation. It is a one-stop resource filled with helpful information about how to deal with bullying. You will also find a link to our kid's website, teamheroes.ca.
By working together, we can create a bully-free Alberta.
Mandatory anti-bullying programs will be in every Ontario school as the provincial government attempts to combat the "hidden problem" of verbal abuse, physical threats, and intimidation.
The announcement was made one day after 16 teenagers were in court facing harassment charges and sexual assault charges relating to incidents at a North York high school.
Police say a 16-year-old girl at James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School in the Finch Avenue and Keele Street area was harassed for months as schoolboys demanded sexual favours from her.[this makes any human being sick to their stomach; well except for goreans (where did they runaway to?) and the fact that goreans celebrate rape as "natural" proves just how mentally ill they truly are]
"For victims out there, there is going to be new help," Mr. Kennedy said. "The main thing is for them to feel that there is somebody on their side that understands what they're going through.
"For perpetrators, they need to know that this behaviour won't be tolerated."

Canada; the anti-gorTwo moms, dad for five-year-old, appeal court says
Wed, January 3, 2007
By JOE MATYAS AND NEIL JUDSON, FREE PRESS REPORTERS
A five-year-old London boy now has two moms and a dad as a result of an Ontario Court of Appeal decision released yesterday.
The same-sex partner of the boy's biological mother was also determined to be his mom in a unanimous decision rendered by three appeal court judges.
Social conditions and attitudes have changed to such an extent since the passage of the Children's Law Reform Act in 1990 that it's now possible "the parents of a child can be two women or two men," said the decision written by Justice Marc Rosenberg.
Or in this case, a man and two women, said the ruling supported by justices Roy McMurtry and Jean-Marc Labrosse.
The case was initiated in 2003 when the lesbian couple asked Superior Court Justice David Aston to declare the partner of the boy's birth mother as a third legal parent, while maintaining the status of the biological mother and father.
"I have two moms and a daddy," the boy said outside the court at the beginning of court proceedings.
Aston was told the boy lived with the two women and spent time with his father.
The case was complicated by third parties who were granted intervenor status by Aston, including the Alliance for Marriage and Family, an [transplanted ultra Right Wing American] organization that supports the traditional view of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Advances in reproductive technology and types of relationships have created changes with respect to parents, said the appeal court.
Bradley Berg, a lawyer for Family Service Association of Toronto that was granted intervenor status in the case, praised the decision.
"They are very happy with the result," he said of the advocacy group. "The legislation at issue is 20, 25 years old. And at that time, the traditional structure of mother and father was more common than today, he said.
