Hi Michael,
First you need to determine your motivation for training and eating right. Ask yourself these questions. Do I want to become a pro and make this my career? Do I want to commit to training and riding in order to become the best? Do I just want to get a little better and have some fun? After you answer these questions you can start to make some progress. The farther you want to go in racing, the farther you need to take your training.
You need to start out small. You will never stick with a heavy workout unless you work up to it and break yourself in. Start out doing some short workouts for a while until you get comfortable with them and are ready to move on. These workouts should include stretching out, warming up, a short run, jumprope, some small weights, pushups, setups, some coordination drills and anything else you can throw in. After you get in the habit of doing these workouts you can sit down and look at your schedule, increasing it every few weeks until you are in a heavy workout. A heavy workout to stick would consist of at least a 3 hour a day regimin.
As far as eating right it becomes hard. Just try to cut out most of the sweets and fatty, greasy, or fried foods. Try to stick with a rounded diet consisting of all food groups. Eat lots of veggies and some carbs. Your workouts and riding will keep you trim.
