Corrosion and yucky stuff
Before you take a new rod to the beach take the time to spray the guides and other metal parts with Super Lube or Slick 50 spray. Wipe off the excess. If you have a used rod, carefully remove the corrosion from the guides without scratching the finish on the threads and finish. Do the same for the reel seat. Then spray them down.

Clean the blank and grips with a mild detergent and warm water. Dry the blank and apply a coat of wax. I like Birchwood Casey Gunstock Wax but you can use Pledge or any other wax without a cleaner additive.
