Coming back from injury...Whats the best training?
I broke my lower leg this past year around September just after signing with Team Green, and then had medial and lateral maniscus (I'm pretty sure thats what its called) surgery on both of my knees cause of a previous injury this past year. The doctors are tellin me things are lookin strong and i should be able to get back riding and running sometime next weeks. What would the best exercises be to gain strength back in my legs and also get my cardio up to be ready for races like Lake Whitney, Oak Hill, etc.?

Also what type of diet should I have. I'm currently 5' 11" and about 135 lbs because of the loss of muscle, but im usually around 145 or so when I'm in top physical condition. I stay away from fast food, candies and anything like that as much as possible but I'm not really sure exactly what things I should be eating and drinking

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Donald Solley 115

Re: Coming back from injury...Whats the best training?
You may have trouble with running at this stage of progress. cycling, elliptical and scwhinn airdyne may be a better choice for cardio, then as your doctor permits you can start a walk/jog program with recovery days.
Strength training for your lower body should be a main concern, again after your doctor and PT give the ok. If they give you restrictions on training, do not go against their recommendations. Body weight exercises (squats, single leg squats, step ups, calf raises, sport cord exercises -lateral jumps, single leg partial squats, etc.) are a good place to start. Then with help of a strength specialist, you can work into leg press, leg curl, weighted calf raises etc.
You will need to regain the muscle you have lost, this will require more protein in your diet. Have the required amount of protein with every meal and you may need additional calories daily to build.
