Child Care
I offered to help my sister with her taxes this year, but I am unsure about something. She works, but because she makes so little, she qualifies for state aid for child care expenses. I am not sure of the exact amounts, but here is what I do know so far. The state pays the daycare facility a set amount directly and my sister is responsible for approximately $250 a month out of pocket.
I am sure she qualifies for EIC, but unsure about the child care credit. I am thinking she should be able to show that $250 per month that she pays as an expense. So far, the daycare has provided her with nothing as far as payments received. Any suggestions or info on how this is handled?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Child Care
As long as she is paying "out of pocket" the $250 a month, she is allowed to deduct this from her Federal taxes. The daycare center should have furnished a statement as of December 31,2003 of the monies paid by your sister. Tell her to go ask for it.
