Checkered flag Update 03/28 Okay so I am going to repost this just because I know there are alot of newbies out there that have not read this yet and I know that there are some of you that keep asking me what happened to it. I am keeping in my old disclaimer only because I love evie and she was the one that helped me so much when I first started writing and I think that she should still get the glory for it. hehe. Authors Note: This is my first attempt at this writing thing. I hope that you enjoy it. I need feedback so please write me at jennij@yahoo.com. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Ashley (My queen). She is wonderful. Shout out to all the P\J fans at MBTV and to the OTL gang. Especially Jessica and Evie. You know I love ya! Spoilers: Some "I think that's it". Joey said as she took the last picture on the wall in her office. She had been packing up all of her paintings and certificates preparing for what was to come. The room looked stale and the air was stagnant. She was so ready to be out oh here. She turned as she heard footsteps and a small smile crossed her face. "Good morning Jeff. " "Good morning Joey." "Are things going a little better this morning or should I still be on guard. " "Well you know how women are on a bad day." "Yeah I do but I also know how you are on a bad day too." "Haha" Joey bit back. "If you think I was a bitch yesterday then you should see me lash out at pig headed men who think that they know everything." "I will be sure to look out for any of those and warn them of you bitchery." Joey smiled at the man that was once her student. Although he was about 5 years younger, Joey liked to pick around with him like an old friend that she went to high school with. He had been there for her when she needed him once and for the last 6 years he was her one confidant. "So really, boss lady what's on the schedule for today." "I need to go and take care of a few things and then I'll be heading home so I can be there when the movers get there." "So when is your last day." "Thursday, thank god only 2 more days." Going through all of the comotion in the last few days was wearing Joey out. She would be so releaved when this was all taken care of. "Are you ready for all of this." "Yeah, I am. I am so excited. I am looking forward to the move and the new scenery." "Are you scared of the travel? All of that time on the road. You will be slap wore out." "No, I think that it will be good for me and I know that Jessie will love it." "What little girl wouldn't, no school and you get to travel and go to a new city every week." "You should know I don't like the no school part but they do have a good tutor that travels with them so that the children do get a good education." "So have you been watching so that you can keep up with who you will have to take care of?" "No, I have not had a chance with all of the arrangements that have to be made and all." "Have you ever watched a race in your life." "Yes I have mister know-it-all. I used to watch with my dad when I was a little girl. I wasn't into dolls and stuff so he would let me watch the race with him and I used to love watching Richard Petty and Darrill Waltrip bump and slam into each other trying to get to the finish line first." "Well it has been a while since you have watched huh." "Yeah I guess so." "So when is your flight out." "Well the movers will be at the house at 6:00 this evening and then my flight will leave out on Friday morning. I should have a week to get the new apartment straight and all. " "We will leave out for the track on Thursday of next week." "Miss Josephine Potter, how does it feel to be the head doctor for the entire NASCAR circuit, Jen called from around the corner." "Jen, I was wondering when I would get to rub it in to you." "Sorry I beat you to it. I still cannot get over it though, I never would have thought you would want to do something like this, Jo." "Why do you say that Jen." "It just doesn't seem like you to not be in a stable place. You were always grounded." "I was only grounded as you put it because I was trapped. Did you forget the reason that I could never leave? My sister the B&B. Sound familiar? Finally I got up enough nerve to go with Pa.........." Joey drifted off and turned away. The tears threatening to fall but Joey resisted. Joey turned back to Jen and began to speak again. " I was going to say...". she began with a still shaky voice, "that when I got up enough nerve to leave with Pacey it was the best feeling I have ever had. Besides the day that Jessie was born. Jen I am so ready for this and no last ditch attempt from you is going to help. I have to this so please be happy for me." "Joey you know that I support your choice but it is just that I want you to be happy." "Thank you Jen. Besides I will have to see if there are any single drivers for you while I am out. I know how you like the bad boy type." "That is okay Joey I think that Dru was enough to ruin that dream for any girl." "Yeah you have Dru the rebel without a clue and I had Dawson. The prick with ears." "I think that we have stepped into territory that is better left alone." Jen started dating Dru after he showed he could actually be a nice guy if he wanted to but when Jen caught him slammed up against the wall of the kitchen fucking the little cheerleader bitch from down the hall she decided that it was never going to be a happy ending with him. Joey on the other hand had gone back to Dawson after Pacey ran off before graduation. She wanted Pacey to come back so bad but found that Dawson was always there for her. I think that you could constitute that behavior as stalking. He was always there knocking on the door to see her at all hours of the night. Joey finally gave in and went out with him "just for old times sake." Joey left Dawson when he hit her and gave her a black eye. "I am so sorry" he said " I will never do it again" he would cry out to her. "Kiss my ass Dawson." It was a mild fight that escalated into what would seem by the end of it was a brawl. It was all over a picture Dawson found in Joeys drawer. So much for forgetting Pacey, she thought. " I could not agree more." Joey snapped back into the conversation. The women hugged each other in a long tight embrace. "I am going to miss you, you know that don't you." Joey's eyes were glistening with unshed tears. "Sure I do Joey. I Just want you to know that I think that you will be the best damn doctor that those men have ever seen." "You think? Is that what you see in your bitch of the month club crystal ball." "Oh Joey you hurt me!" Jen exclaimed throwing her hand up to cover her heart. "Really Joey, of course you will be the best doctor at the center. Why do you think they made you an instructor only 4 years out of grad school. Highest honor if I recall correctly." "Yeah, yeah Jen. I know I have heard it over and over. I know that I rubbed it in but god I loved every minute of watching you face turn 10 shades of red." "Gee what are friends for if they can not get you entirely pissed by taking the prized position and then only teaching for 3 months and being offered a better position in their opinion." Jen said all in one breath. "Well just think of it this way, now with me out of the way you will be able to handle the new position." "I will give it back if you would just stay. " " Great try Jen but you know that I can not do that." "I know but I had to try one last time. " "You would." "If only you would have stayed out of so many mens beds and stayed in the library studying. You might have learned a little more and got the position the first time around." "Who said that I did not learn something in my own class of hard knocks?" "I know you did Jen and again I say that I think we should drop this subject so that you and I can have a great time before I leave." Joey and Jen had become friends after Joeys breakup with Pacey. Jen was also the one who told Joey about Dawson and his bad habits. All the woman he wanted. Using that director shit to get them into bed. " Joey honey I hate to tell you this but he is just a dick with now heart. Jen would sit and hold her while she cried out loud and cursed men for all that they were worth. Jen was there for Joey throughout collage helping each other. They majored in the same doctorate field and had shared so many things. During this time Joey had become pregnant and Jen could not watch Joey loose everything that she had worked so hard for. Joey had told her that it was just a one night stand and that she was so drunk that she did not even remember his name. Jen felt sorry for her new found best friend so when the baby arrived she offered to move in with Joey and help out. They alternated their classes opposite each other so that at all times the baby would have someone with her and Joey would not have to pay full time daycare or a sitter. They loved it and they became the best of friends. Now she was leaving it all behind and she was scared to death. Joey knew she had to leave the memories behind and start over. Just her and Jessie to take on the world. Her life was about to change drastically and she had now clue what was in store for her. what did you think. let me know.... I've seen this title but I've never read this fic before. It's really a good idea. I'm glad that you posted it because I'll have fun reading it and seeing what happens. AU fics are the most fun.

The movers had left about 20 minutes ago and the was finally in her new home. All be it not for long, she was happy to call it hers. Joey was the new in field care center doctor for the NASCAR Winston cup series. She would barely be able to unpack before she would have to start out on the road. There was a knock at the door. "Who the hell could that be" Joey said to herself as she walked to the door. "Hello" Joey was surprised at the handsome young man standing in front of her with a dozen roses. "Hello Mam, I am looking for a Ms. Josephine Potter." "That would be me." "I think that these belong to you." The young handed her the roses and turned to be on his way. Joey was curious to find out who sent her the flowers. No one knew that she was here. She did not give out her address. When she opened the card she had to smile. hang in there kiddo. I love you, no matter who else doesn't. Jeff Joey rushed over to the phone and dialed the all too familiar numbers. ******************************************** Thursday came too fast. Joey was wore out. She had not stopped in the last week. After talking to Jeff, she felt a lot better. She needed a friend and she could always count on him. Jeff had allowed his brother Jake whom lived with him to come with Joey to keep Jessie company. He was 12 and lived with Jeff. Joey knew that she liked Jeff when she found out that he took in his little brother when his parents were both killed in a tragic car accident. If Jeff was not such a good friend to her, she might have to rethink the relationship but that ship had sailed. They tried the whole boyfriend girlfriend but with the age difference and being too close of friends, it just did not work out. The track was huge. It was unlike anything that she had seen before. Jessie could hardly be controlled. She wanted to get out of the car and see everything. All of her friends had told her that the cars were loud but that there were some cool drivers. Jake was all over the place. There was only one man that he wanted to meet and he was sure that he was going to do that. Joey called after the two and when Jessie stalked over to her mom she looked antsy. "Look honey, I just want you to stay close. It is 9 o'clock right now and I want you both back here by 11. I have to go and settle in and check everything out. "Yes mom." Jessie rolled her eyes. "Jessie, honey you know I am just looking out for you. I could put off the settling in and just go with you instead." "No, mom I think that we will be alright. I can do it and I promise I will be good mommy." "Make sure that you have her back on time Jake." "Yes Mam" "Thank you." Joey learned that all through college that she had to give Jessie room. With all of the classes that she had, Joey had to rely on Jen and make sure that Jessie had the best of care. As Joey watched her walk off and look around at the complete different environment, she just smiled and turned to walk into the care center. "She is getting too old" Joey said under her breath with a sigh of motherly love. **************************** As Jessie and Jake walked through the garage area, she noticed that some of the cars were not there yet. The one car with the stall opened that she could see was a blue car. There was the sponsor logo all over the car. Her mom had tried to tell her as much about racing as she knew so that she would understand. She looked around the corner and saw a man with dark hair and bright hazel eyes. He was tall and had dark hair. He reminded her of a picture that her mom had hanging in the living room. She watched as he talked to another man who had been checking under the hood. She stepped out so that she could look a little closer. She was fascinated with the car and she wanted to see what all of the fuss was over. All of the boys wanted to talk to her when they found out where she was going. "Will you get to meet the drivers?' "Get me and autograph." She remembered that some wanted to get an autograph of the man who drove the #3 car and the #8 car. Some wanted one the guy that drove the #20 car. She could not remember their names at the time but she was sure that she would find them out so that she could send her friends back the right thing. Jake was not happy because no one was there to work on their cars yet. "Hm mmm, can we help you two." Jessie jumped. She was startled by the deep voice and the 2 tall men that were now standing in front of them. "No, Sir we was just looking around." Jessie was not shy and she loved to meet new people. "My mom is the new doctor in the care center and I just wanted to see what all of this racing stuff is about." "Well miss............." the driver asked. "Potter, Jessie Potter and this is my friend Jake"Jessie put her hand out to shake the mans hand. He shook both of their hands. "Well Miss. Potter and Jake, it is a pleasure to meet you. Would you like to take a look around?" "Oh man that would be so cool." Both of the children were in awe of all of the stuff that was around. "Okay then." he said with a slight laugh. "This is my crew chief, Max Jones." "Nice to meet you madame. You too Sir." Max said with a smile on his face. "So is there anything particular that you would like to see?" The tall dark haired man asked Jessie. He was very nice and very cute. "As a matter of fact there is sir, I have some friends that have sent me on a mission for some autographs." "Okay and who would you need to get those from" "Well I need one from...." Jessie still could not remember the names of the drivers but she remembered the numbers." " I need the 20 car and the 8 car and the 3 car. She smile with a little hint of embarrassment. "Okay so that means you need to see Tony Stewart and dale Jr. and you need to see the man who just happens to be in the stall next to me due to the fact that he owns my car." I think that dale sr. And dale jr will be the easy ones. Just one question though. They did not want Jeff Gordon of the 24 car though. " "No sir, they do not like him. Neither does Jake he said that he was a Weiner." The man could not help but laugh at the words. "Why is that so funny?" "Nothing really, just wondering." "Does Dale Sr. really own your car?" Jake asked with a twinkle in his eyes. "Yes sir and I am thinking that he is the one that you want to meet huh?" "Well no offense sir but he is the man." " I would have to agree with you on that one. I think that we could arrange that one for you" "Oh man I think that is so cool and I think that I have died and went to heaven." "Well nice to know that I could make your day." The man was happy to see excitement on the kids faces. After the introductions and getting the autographs that she needed she looked at her watch. "Oh no my mom is going to kill us" "Why is that?" "It is 11 and we are suppose to be meeting her right now. We better go. Thank you so much for all that you did for me today. I had a lot of fun." Jessie and Jake were turning to run and were so thrilled about everything that had happened in the last 2 hours. She really liked dale Sr. and thought that dale jr. was pretty cute. Jake could barely talk to Dale sr. All he could really say was "you are the man." He could not believe that he got to meet his hero. Jessie stopped and turned back to the man that was so nice to them this morning. "Sir, what is your name." "Pacey Witter, Mam and it was very nice to meet you. I hope to see you again."
