WOW, very very nice Myra. I still have done little with the eggs, find it very challenging with the tools I have, but I love a challenge and will get it down pat sooner or later

Re: Carved Emu Egg
Thank you Myra.....right now I am working on my carving skills. I will send you a couple of pics when I finish the one I am working on...it's almost finished. I figure the better I get at carving the better I can do with an egg. By the way I went and got some white graphite paper awhile back, but find it is difficult to transfer patterns. It just doesn't "transfer" on eggs as easily as other things!!!! Is there a better way?
I haven't forgotten about what I owe you and one day you will recieve a surprise in the mail.
PS: I have a friend who makes awesome hand turned wooden bowls.....he has them in galleries in Santa Fe and other places like that. He wants me to bring my bowls ( saw them on the website) so he can photograph them and talk to the galleries ( having seen them with his own eyes) about them.
He and his wife are very old and dear friends. I just don't get out much and neither do they.
((((((hugs))))))) Myra

Re: Carved Emu Egg
Back from the American Emu Association symposium in Nashville. Ron Cheruka taught a four hour egg carving class at the symposium - just the basics and an intro to the different burrs used and what you could do with them. Very interesting. He is going to do the class again next year in Oklahoma City, OK. July, don't know exact dates.
Anyway, Ron showed us a trick on transferring designs to emu or other eggs. Put it on plain old copier paper, same stuff you use in your printer, cut it out roughly and then get it wet. Slap it on the egg and position it. Then cut gently through the paper directly onto the egg. You just want to do the outline of the design. Then you eyeball the design you made the copy of and do the rest of the carving. I hope this made sense...... I figure you could probably do this with the gourds too?

WOW, Myra, wish I could have been there, I could use the help

Cut with what exactly....dremel, and what bits did he use for carving.....just knowing that would help.
I havent done too much with the eggs, but am going to play around in the next few days with bits and ideas. Anymore tips would be greatly appreciated. I have to get the hang of this, so I can send you a gourd bowl.

PS: sure was great hearing from you.
