Re: Carob?
Carob contains natural sugars (sucrose, glucose, fructose and maltose). Although carob is low to moderate GI, it's low in fat but not low in carbs. The GI of carob is approx. 50.
Carob is a natural sweetener rich in B vitamins and minerals with a flavor similar to that of chocolate. It is often used as a substitute for chocolate or cocoa, by people who are allergic to chocolate or who wish to avoid the caffeine. But thats the only advantage of using carob...it has some nutritional value but for a diet food or sweetner--i would not recommend it.
Food Value Per 100 g of Carob Flour

The pods contain up to 1.5% tannins which interfere with the body's utilization of protein.
Me personally...when dieting would stay away from it.
