Car Parking
Here's something to think about : When I take my daughter for her horse riding lesson I have to drive past the prison at ******on Thorn and there are usually quite a few cars in the car park which there doesn't seem to be any charge for. But if you have to visit somebody in Warrington hospital (also built and paid for by us all) then you have to pay. Does this seem fair to you ?
Re: Car Parking
I don't know if I read the story correctly but I think I read something in the Guardian this weekend about the plans for the new Omega site being developed. If I'm not mistaken, the plans are for the companies located their not to provide parking spaces for employees. Instead a fleet of modern busses (Where have I hear this one before?) will ferry people to the place.
Re: Car Parking
So where are they supposed to park to get on the busses. We all know public transport is not a viable option.

Re: Car Parking
The company I work for, at one of it sites, does not allow cars without passengers to park at the site. Single occupancy cars have to park in another nearby site (where there is a car park) and special shuttle busses are provided between the sites. This seems to work okay and moves the problem at one site to another which can more easily deal with the number of cars but I can't see it working everywhere. However a number of places have park and ride schemes which appear to work reasonably well. I recently visited Chester with my daughter and the cost of the bus for two of us was less than what it would cost to park the car in the city centre. However if there had been four of us then the cost of the bus would mean it would be cheaper to drive in and it would be more convenient too.
Park and rides a good idea especially for visitors to a town who dont exactly know the roads that well. I can't see the logic though of local people driving to the outskirts of the town only to get a bus back in.
I took the bus into town last week for the beer festival. What are all these signs about then? I thought that they were all hi tech, linked into a gps system that worked out how long the next bus would be? The one we were at seemed nothing more than an electronic timetable that predicted the bus should have appeared ten minutes earlier.
Re: Car Parking
Speaking of park and ride. I see the council have decided to run a free park and ride system for the Christmas period between town centre and some car park near the blue bridge with busses every tem mins. At that sort of distance I think it could just as well be called a park and walk.
Call me Mr Cynical but I bet this is probably down to pressure from the town centre traders on the run up to Christmas that the lack of parking in the town will cause shoppers to look elsewhere.
Still, I suppose if it reduces congestion we should be thankful.
Is that the Brian Bevan Island with no Brian Bevan?
Anyway, what's wrong with parking on the old Courts carpark and walking in.
If instead of spending all the money on the Partk and ride, why don't they just reduce the cost of a standard bus ride to a sensible level. LikeI'vwe said before. I have a car that I pay for and the extra cost of atrip to town return in the car maybe £1. If I get the bus, if it turns up would be over £4 return for the two of us.
No competition!!!!!!!

Re: Car Parking
Be careful about parking in Courts car park. My wife works near there and when Courts were still in business her company had an arrangement with Courts to allow her to park her car on their car park. However not long after Courts closed down the owner of the car park told her company that they could no longer park there because it would make it more difficult for him to sell/rent the building. He also warned them that there would be cameras monitoring it and action would be taken if they carried on parking. She now parks in the cleared area nearby (where the Bay Horse was) for about £1 - £2 per day.
Re: Car Parking
I noticed a sign on the ticket machine at Cockhedge today that said that the parking charges are going up in April to £1 per hour. It's already 80p per hour, which I think is a total rip off, especially for me when I just need to need to nip into Maplin for a spare part costing just 19 pence!
I don't know if it's just my imagination but haven't the charges gone up several times over recent years? And how is a 20% increase justified in these days of low inflation? Could it have any bearing on the fact that there is a masiff car parking shortage in the town during the construction of the new car park? If so this is just cashing in at the public expense. They can't even bother to put receipt paper in the bloody things. Press the button for one and it always says this facility is not available.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr makes me angry. So angry in fact that I left the bloody 19p part on the counter by mistake and had to go through it all again.
I won't use it. Have you seen the massive board with tiny writing for there terms and conditions they have by the entrance. No way you can even see it to read it. If you did it'd take around 15 minutes to read.
You realy should try to improve the quality of your reading material. I actually don't mind paying to park the car but a quid for less than five mins is a bit steep. They should have a system that allows people to park for free if its only a quick pit stop. Manchester airport for example charges a fortune for car parking but if your in and out within 15 mins it's free.
