Back-Up
Two fire balls high above Greenland burst into the sky as Chaos Rain and Senzio entered the atmosphere. “OK Hiro, get ready. This may be a small group a bandits trying to make a quick buck but be on guard,” Said Trent through the com-screen. Hiro nodded, “Rodger, I’ll follow your lead.” As the duo ducked below cloud level, they realized they were in for quite the fight. The base was surrounded by multiple Taurus’s raining fire upon the structure. The snowy plane radiated from the glow of explosions and beam blasts. Hiro’s eyes widened as his jaw dropped, “Aw man…” Trent kept a straight face, “Keep your cool rookie, we can do this.” He questioned his own statement but had to think logically, “We’re just in time, we can stop them before they enter!”
The ESS base was in disarray, men scrambled about inside to get to their posts and MS’s. The bay door shuddered under heavy fire. A small group of Taurus’s equipped with beam cannons were laying waste to the entrance when the ground from beneath there feet erupted. Chaos Rain fired its linear rifle onto the crowd as Senzio provided back-up with its rifle and beam vulcan as well. Three of the suits violently exploded sending the others careening backwards onto their sides. None of them had time to move as their imminent doom was met. Chaos Rain touched down in front of the bay door, “This place is a wreck.” Barely finishing his sentence, more suits touched down behind him and opened fire to the ESS pair. Chaos Rain took a step forward and opened his mouth replying with an inferno that besieged the enemy. Hiro held down the trigger to his beam vulcan and fired into the blaze. The MS’s exploded simultaneously leaving smoldering craters in the snow. “Hiro, watch my back!” Trent yelled as he faced the oversized door. “Hm, it’s about to fall off its hinges,” He thought while finding the solution in the palm of Chaos Rain’s metal hand. Using an NPL, Trent froze the door shut providing some reinforcement against more fire. Two more Taurus’s flew from above, targeting Senzio in the process. Hiro white-knuckled the controls and took to the sky meeting them half-way. The enemy wielded beam sabers as they hacked at Senzio. Hiro’s MS had the advantage with its own linear saber. Senzio began parrying, ducking, dodging, and avoiding the loss of a limb. The first MS flew below and came up behind Senzio and swung high. Senzio ducked below the slash and did a full 180 following up with and uppercut that left the enemy in half. Hiro used the momentum to gain some distance between him and the other suit. The Taurus charged after waving its beam saber like a baton at Senzio. Hiro flew his suit backwards and fended off the strikes easily causing the opposing saber to deignite. Senzio stabbed outward with its linear saber pointed at the opponent’s cockpit and slowed down swiftly. The suit slid right onto the blade and started to spark as the cockpit heated and began melting. Senzio leaned back and gave it a good drop-kick letting it explode at a safe distance rather than on top of Hiro. Senzio hit the snow feet first and skied along stopping just a few meters in front of Chaos Rain. “Nice one, kid,” Trent mentioned. “Thanks!” Hiro shouted. Chaos Rain took off into the air with Senzio following behind. Just getting above the base they received a ton of flak. The duo piloted erratically, performing some cooperative evasive maneuvers. Trent targeted and shot at multiple Taurus’s getting headshots each time. Hiro also returned fire but took out fewer suits. With a blast from behind, Senzio was set spinning out of control. “Hiro!” Trent called out as he whipped around to meet a group of MS’s bombarding him with beam cannons. Trent fired up his verniay wings and headed straight for them. His experience under-fire kept damage to a minimal as he juked and returned fire. Two MS’s exploded within the group buying Trent enough time to get in close. With its linear scythe drawn, Chaos Rain spiraled past the Taurus’s leaving some in half and the others at a loss of appendages. Quickly facing the survivors, Chaos Rain finished with well placed shots from his linear rifle, leaving the rest to go down in flames. Senzio drifted back up beside its partner. “You alright, kid?” Trent asked a bit concerned. Hiro nodded lightly, “Yea, I got this.” “Good. Keep it up, you’re doing fine.” The words exited his mouth as his eyes drifted past the base. “Hey…they’re retreating!” The numbers of adversaries had significantly dwindled, the remaining Taurus’s took off into the sky leaving the base near ruin. However, they had failed in stealing the supplies. Trent looked on amazed, “I’ll be damned…” Hiro was a bit confused himself, “Do we go after them?” “No, they’re obviously part of something bigger, I don’t want to see the rest of them at full strength.” Trent shook his head, “I thought Vis Vires was done for, but now who are these guys?” Hiro’s face lit up, “So we’re done? Let’s go eat!”
