Lunges and squats are good, other movements would be step ups, stiff legged dead lifts and kick backs with the low cable pully.

The main thing is to focus on your glutes. Focus on how the muscle contracts and pulls your thigh back. Make sure you go low enough with lunges or squats so that you feel your glutes activate. YOu should feel the stretch in the glutes at the bottom of the movement and the contraction at the top.

when doing these type of exercises i find squeezing the glutes really helps you want to make sure you feel the burn and get that full contraction..as for lifting the tush, these exercises will help a tremendous amount but always remember all the lunges, squats, and stairs wont work unless your diet is in check!!

Ahhhh walking lunges...you either love them or..Love them even more LOL. I think they are awesome, but brutal.I used to do them for my comps and after each set I would colapse on the floor..gasp for the air, crawl back upright and off again:rolleyes People at the gym though I was not right upstairs Ha ha ha:lol
I tend to build fairly easily so I might do plyometrics to pre-exhaust my legs or do some supersetting and that way it prevents me from pushing too heavy.

What do you think about "isometrics" for the butt? I have always been told that it helps if I squeeze the buttocks as tightly as I can and hold as long as I can, which DOES make them sore as HECK.

Do you think this does any good? I have a big problem with the soft, wide butt, too.:rolleyes
