Anything we've missed?
Although we are serious Pratchett fans here, we haven't read all the books. If we've missed something, or you just have a random cool idea, please let us know and we'll do our best to make it happen.

...maybe....

Is this going to be a strictly DW board, or should a section be put aside for Good Omens, Johnney Maxwell, the nomes and the other few bits and bobs he's writ?

I suppose all such conversation could be taken to the drum...

Hmmm, we may get around to a not-strictly-Pratchett forum, but we can move topicas from the Drum should that happen.

I'm feeling pesimistic. What if it's another HP? That was a total disater!!!! Hopefully it will turn out like Lord of the Rings, they did do a good job with that... oh yes and Pride & Predijuce too that was downright fabulous.

Oooh, know what this means Grim? More accents! (please excuse us, we're just plain weird)

Well, I think that as Terry Jones is doing the scripting, that side of it won't be bad. I am a *teeensy* bit worried about the casting - but as long as the 'lovies' don't get their hands on it, then I think that it will be ok.

Re: Anything we've missed?
sadly the movie is moving a bit slowly at the moment, Terry Gilliam (the director) has moved onto a different project because of trouble getting funding or something.

Still, I'm fairly optimistic about it.

..and anyway, HP wasn't /that/ bad

Don't get me started on that movie. If anyone even remotely liked it, I'll probably end up insulting them in some way so it's best if I keep my mouth shut.

yay to lord of the rings

as a proud kiwi (not a flightless bird, a member of the NZ community) i went and saw the 2 towers yesterday (opening day. so sue me) and it rocks.

u know, i met the director and Elijah Wood about 2 years ago, before the first movie came out, and i didn't know who he was... damn my bad memory. an autograph would be pretty damned cool to have

p.s. i thought the HP movie was a serious let down for the book. the only people i know who liked it, hadn't read the book

I've heard a few things on the grapevine from people who hev already been fortunate enough to see it. Those who haven't read (or read once, 20years sgo) the book say its a bloody good film. Those who have read (and are devoted to) the book say yes.... its probably a good film, but they've taken some liberties with the plot and the charachters.

I haven't seen it myself. I have seen clips of Ents which don't look...right. They seem too small and ....i dunno, not how I imagined them. I've heard golum is amazing, and that faramir is evil. I've heard Gimli has been turned into comic relief and that Legolas shows off on a shield.

I've heard the elves get involved... and this worries me somewhat.

I'm looking forward to it anyway, I loved the last one, and can forgive the sacrifice of the wood and Tom Bombadil.... but am still wondering about the swords they should have got from the barrow.

It was sooo cool! Grim and I saw the 12:00 weds morning showing (with school the next day mind you, yeah we're insane). I haven't read the books in a while, but it still seemed pretty accurate (but don't trust my memory!). I thought the Ents were neat. They looked absolutely amazing close up, but as the camera panned out, well I dunno, they didn't look quite as good. I can't wait for the next one!

Re: Anything we've missed?
The plot WAS different, though. But, I don't think that it detracted that much the way they did it. I really liked it nonetheless. Gollum was quite awesome and Gimli DID provide comic relief. The elves, yeah, they helped. It was...interesting, but it made for a very neat battle scene. ^_^

Mrs Grim

"What's optimism?" asked Cacambo.

"Alas," said Candide, "it's a mania for insisting that everything is right when everything is going wrong."

Re: Anything we've missed?
there were some quite liberal liberties taken with the various characters, but it didn' tend to detract from the overall effect to much.

helms deep rocked (yay elves - shame they didn't do their cool thingy that they did at the beggining of FOTR, that was sooo wicked), and i'm sure that there were some elves at helms deep, but they didn't pull a very big role in the books

gimli was a bit of a comic releif, but it was very well done, primarily using quote from the books, instead of just making up bad jokes (i won't go into to much detail so i don't spoil it for all u poor people who haven't seen it yet)

faramir was a little moore evil than in the book, sbut it still had the right intentions.

it was a ashame about Tom Bombadil, and the green lady etc, but it think it was almost unforgivable that they cut out the going to Minor Tirith in TTT.

those ent's weren't quite big enough, u'r all right. there ewas something about them thaat said "not entish enough", and they didn't do alot of ent related stuff

i'm trying to work out if it was a shame that they continued to use things that they weren't given in the first movie, in the seond movie (eg, the swords, the cloaks, etc). i'm going to be interested to see how they use items that are plot essential, but so far undelivered (the light of galadriel? i can't remember igf they got that in FOTR).
i am proud that thye made subtle allowances for items such as legolas' bow which galadriel was meant to give him, but didn't.

did u guys like Golum? i found him a bit annoying, where as he was a more driven character in the books. the scenes with him talking to himself were well done though. they didn't do enough explaining about his past life + why the elvish rope burnt him (the fact that they didn't explain it was elvish rope didn't help)

P.s. Yay Gandalf the White
Yay Helms Deep
And yay to Peter Jackson for sticking mostly to the plot

Re: Anything we've missed?
The elvish rope definately would have been confusing for people who had never read the books. I was a bit confused at first the, miracuoulsy, remembered that bit of info.
