I'm hoping this will work, if it does I am the 3rd member, woot! I absolutely adore this BBC miniseries, it is an absolute masterpiece of an interpretation. Michael Jayston, I love you.

Hi! I'm so glad that you were able to register without any problems. I'm still working on changing the security setting. Nothing seems to work, but ezboard should be working on the problem shortly... I hope.
I just a link to your website on the bottom of the forum, as you can see!
I was watching Jane Eyre only last night, too. Then I went to your website and got the idea for this little forum. It's a strange thing how soothing it is to watch it for a little while when you're stressed at all. And my cat still watches it with me! Whenever I have it on she sits nearby and stares at the TV screen for hours. Probably the most amazing thing about it is that it actually changed how I look at the novel! After watching, I noticed something through the acting that I had never noticed about a few scenes. When I looked back at the novel, I realised that it was all in there- between the lines. There's a reason why I chose 'nameless bliss' for the name of our forum!

Great to see you here, Susan!
If you have any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. I added a few new forums that I thought might be useful- like a links page. I was thinking it might be a good idea to have a thread that acts a bit like a petition to see just how many people there are out there who love this series, and would like to be able to own it- *sigh* all of it. What do you think about that?
Re: Another new member
Totally agree with you about the acting (as usual ) Whenever I watch it, a sort of dreamy, relaxed feeling comes over me, and I feel like I am completely in the story. Kinda weird, but blissful describes it exactly.
Re: Petition
I think your idea of a petition thread is a good one. Maybe if enough of us make enough noise, , the BBC will come to its senses and release this version. The recording I made back in '78 is all well & good, but I'd kill for a professionally produced copy!

Re: Petition
Ah, you are THAT Susan, the bee! I bought my copy from you earlier this year. SOOO grateful to you! And it's nice to see you here as well.
Re: Another new member
I'm so glad someone has started an online discussion about this wonderful adaptation! I have faith that SOME DAY, it will come out on DVD - until then, we'll just have to keep ourselves going with our old tapes.
Re: Petition
Just out of curiosity, Susan, how many people have contacted you about getting a copy so far? I counted somewhere around 30 or so on the imdb board who wanted one. I feel a little guilty when I tell people to ask you about it; I imagine you overwhelmed by them sometimes. I even get emails from people I don't even know, asking me about it!
Re: The acting
I really did not think it was possible to lift the characters off of the page like that. I think that the first time I saw it, I spent most of the time in a state of shock. It was astounding. You just don't see acting like that every day. And with characters so notoriously difficult to portray! Especially Mr. Rochester. He's very complicated as a character, and I really did not think any actor would be able to pull it off- but I was wrong! And happily so.
I'm indebted to imdb.com for having a discussion page for this adaptation, otherwise I would have never even heard of it. I think it's a shame that it isn't available more widely- and that people have to rely on someone copying their own tapes. I feel very lucky that I was able to get a copy only months after I caught wind of how amazing it was, from other fans there. I've heard of some people who last saw it 30 or 20 years ago. I can't imagine. But it goes to show the impact it has on people that they can still remember it and hold it dear over such a long time.
Sophie, I've made about 18 copies, so far. After tonight it will be 19 as I just got another request.
But I don't feel overwhelmed by the requests--when I like something I want others to enjoy it too, so I'm happy to make copies for others. The Jayston/Cusack version is far and away the best "Jane Eyre" that has ever been done!
I wish I could just give copies away, though, but as I am not rich...

Re: Petition
19! ...Good grief! And you've only been doing this for a few months, I think? I don't think I can thank you enough. I get so much joy from watching my copy. AND it actually managed to get my mom interested in Jane Eyre. I've been trying for years... She has a short attention span, so reading the novel was out of the question. And the films didn't do it.
At the beginning of the second disc she asked me to stop it and said: 'you know, there's a lot to this story! There's a lot to be learned...' and I just nodded and said: 'YES!!' Finally! Since my mom isn't into reading nowadays we don't get to share much, but we can share this! We may even rent 'Nicholas and Alexandra'- one of her favourite Michael Jayston films.
Re: Your mom
A-HA! Another "Jane Eyre" fan is born... As a librarian, I talk up the novel all the time. It's hard, sometimes, to get young people to read it these days ("too long!" they whimper)--but once they do pick it up, nearly all of them are hooked.

talking up the novel
Jane Eyre is too long?! And I've heard that those Harry Potter books are not what you'd call a quick read either. And yet, most people I know say that they read Jane Eyre in one day, possibly two.
I'd hate to see how they would react to Vanity Fair!

Bunnicula, I love your name. I just found this forum today. I have been longing to see the Sorcha Cusack version of Jane Eyre again for ages! I saw it many years ago, probably before 1975, when it was broadcast on the CBC in Canada. I would dearly love to get my hands on a copy of it. Do you make them? Could I get you to do one for me? Let me know the cost.

Re: Petition
I have to say I read Jane Eyre when I was 14 after seeing the mini series with Jayston and Cusack ..I could not put the book down and read only a few pages a day to keep me with this pleasure that soon might run out ..
Not sure you all might know that Sorcha is from Dublin as I am .My fathers family knew her dad and met the girls on occasion .She lives in England as dose her three sisters and the entire family are into acting ..I loved her in this role she was the true Jane to me ...
But my original point is I cant imagine even a young kid not liking this book ...fiona
