Re: All That Is Wrong With Today's Moral Majority
As I remember it, the Moral Majority started as a fundamentalist Christian movement, mainly aimed at influencing Congress and making sure Christian values and principles were represented in government. The movement had it's roots in Jerry Falwells addled little brain, not in politics.
~Hmmmm, goes to Hotbot, enters "moral majority, history"~
But then again, why should we let the facts ruin Deans fine command of --- errr, what? Also, Loco - you missed the source of the graphic Dean uses as his sig file:
Re: All That Is Wrong With Today's Moral Majority
Mr. Mongo,
You stated:
"As I remember it, the Moral Majority started as a fundamentalist Christian movement, mainly aimed at influencing Congress and making sure Christian values and principles were represented in government. The movement had it's roots in Jerry Falwells addled little brain, not in politics."
We all know the Moral Majority is not supported by the Democratic Party. And you've contradicted yourself in the above statement.

I think you've found your niche, WrenAnn. You and Sha are 2 peas in a pod. (Wait! Leave some room for MeIissa!! ) I have seldom see you *not* insult posters that are in opposition to Sha's way of thinking. And to think you don't have a stake in any of this - being happily married and all. Seems these forums are just a place for you to let all your marital frustrations hang out. All a game to you. My Lord, woman. You do enjoy belittling and being mean to others, don't you. I can only hope something positive comes from your condescending tripe, such as you've gotten it out of your system and the husband is spared your venom.
No.
I'd rather congregate with my fellows and <gasp, dare I say it?> discuss things of Gor, rather than debating minutae with a lunatic and his minions.
Re: *
Thank you, I am proud to be in Sha's pod than in the likes of yours. :) When some idiot cannot post anything intelligent but finds pleasure in mocking Sha's logo what does that say to you? There was no venom in Jarl Mongo's post at all or was there but it was ok for him to do because (insert baby voice) he is a big bad gorean master man?
As for "And to think you don't have a stake in any of this - being happily married and all." Excuse me, but I happen to have a stake in this. This is my planet as well. If I don't like the ideas of a group of people who demean women because it is their way of life, I will speak out against it. Shannon, you may only care what happens within your own home and your own small circle, but not everyone is that limited.
For the record, when I read my husband some of your pod's posts, he says, "What a bunch of idiots."
Re: All That Is Wrong With Today's Moral Majority
I wish to thank you, Jarl, for taking a piece of artwork "I" created and manipulating the way you did. You do realise that is original, didn't you? I am highly insulted

Jarl perhaps you actually need to read once in awhile.

Moral Majority,
U.S. political action group composed of conservative, fundamentalist Christians.
The group played a significant role in the 1980 elections through its strong support of conservative candidates.
It lobbied for prayer and the teaching of creationism in public schools, while opposing the Equal Rights Amendment (see feminism), homosexual rights, abortion, and the U.S.-Soviet SALT treaties (see disarmament, nuclear). The Moral Majority was dissolved in 1989.
What is wrong with the moral majority of today?
They woke up to their sexist, rascist, homophobic, war mongering ways and saw the light of reason.
The moral majority was a pegorative failure.

Mel altering and posting material without permission is a definite tossable offence according to ezboard.
As the creator you would be well within your rights to toss him and his account into the sewer.
I see that some goreans also have no respect for others intellectual property.
From the site that mongo shows us:
The modern religious right first emerged as a political force in the 1970s. Its origins can be found in Barry Goldwater's unsuccessful campaign for president in 1964 and the conservative movement known as the New Right, which developed after it. The Goldwater campaign brought together several elements of the right wing into a national movement. Among these were hard-line anti-communists who had followed the preaching's of Sen. Joseph McCarthy and people who believed that a movement they called "secular humanism" was trying to steer the U.S. away from a God-centered society toward what they termed "atheistic socialism".2 Add to this the threats of civil rights for gays and other minorities, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the influence of the 1960s and the movement quickly gained momentum throughout the late 60s and 70s.
In the 1960's, the Civil Rights movement was in full swing due largely to the efforts of African-American preachers and church leaders. On March 21 1965, Falwell preached a sermon entitled "Ministers and Marchers" in which he boldly chastised clergy for their involvement in civil rights.
First things first. I altered the image as a joke. Next time, I'll find a facsimile, and alter that. I do respect copyright - unfortunately, no copyright notice appears on the image or anywhere on the website, and the image itself isn't digimarked. Melissa - you might want to consider this service. The image has been pulled from my server, and deleted from my hard drive. I also was unable to edit the reference out of my own post -
Second - Sha Tell, I don't know you well enough to address you by first name, and frankly, by reading your pompous, overblown, authoritarian, long winded diatribes, I don't see that happening in the near future. OK, ever. Tell me what discussing the Moral Majority has to do with the supposed subject matter of this section of your forum, Gor? The fact is, it has nothing to do with it. Period. The point I was trying to make about the Moral Majority was relatively insignificant, and I cede that, as a whole, your argument is reasonably credible.
Let's address the main issue here. What the hell does this have to do with Gor? What does this National Enquirer, supermarket tabloid, poor excuse of a forum do for Gor, other than give you a widely read forum to make an ass of yourself in? What venues on online Gor, if any, do you currently participate in? Frankly - I'm baffled as to how such a (supposedly) well educated professional as yourself can find time out of his busy schedule to attend to the interests of this forum. I don't see what the hell you get out of this - unless of course, you're a freaking masochist.
Knock yourselves out, people. Have at it. It won't alter the fact that the overwhelming majority of people within the Gor comunity see you as a laughable joke, Sha Tell. No cheap shots here - just cold, hard facts.
It was used mistakenly and wrongly, my logo was used as an example of what is wrong with Todays Moral Majority.
"Knock yourselves out, people. Have at it. It won't alter the fact that the overwhelming majority of people within the Gor comunity see you as a laughable joke, Sha Tell. No cheap shots here - just cold, hard facts".
I am sure that you are correct.
But take a second look at your bold statement why don't you.
The overwhelming majority of people within the Gor comunity see me as a laughable joke. This is simply hilarious.
The overwhelming majority of citisens in western modern civilisation see the majority of the gor community as a group
of neanderthals that have no sense of reality.
Television evangelists Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, two of the most prominent voices of the religious right, said liberal civil liberties groups, feminists, homosexuals and abortion rights supporters bear partial responsibility for Tuesday's terrorist attacks because their actions have turned God's anger against America.
"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve," said Falwell...
Gorean's blame "feminists", "civil liberty groups", "homosexuals", and "abortion rights supporters" for the ills of America too.
How sickening.
Robertson and others on the religious right gave critical backing to Bush last year when he was battling for the GOP presidential nomination. A White House official called the remarks "inappropriate" and added, "The President does not share those views".
I am glad the President of the US does not agree with Goreans.
"Television evangelist Pat Robertson yesterday described Islam as a violent religion bent on world domination".
{I wonder if he's ever heard the term 'Manifest Destiny'?}
In mid-September, he and fellow evangelist Jerry Falwell sparked controversy by suggesting on the same show that abortionists, feminists, gays and liberal groups were partly responsible for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Robertson answered. "But, ladies and gentlemen, I have taken issue with our esteemed president in regard to his stand in saying Islam is a peaceful religion. It's just not. And the Koran makes it very clear, if you see an infidel, you are to kill him."
Islam, he concluded, "is not a peaceful religion that wants to coexist. They want to coexist until they can control, dominate and then if need be destroy."
Robertson asked: "As for the Muslim immigrants, Pat, it makes you wonder, if they have such contempt for our foreign policy why they'd even want to live here?"
Move to Ban Net 'Hate Speech' Draws Praise, Concern
LONDON (Reuters) - Authors of emails and Internet postings that contain racist or xenophobic material may face criminal charges under a proposed European treaty that is dividing the Internet and law enforcement communities.
The agreement would create a comprehensive legal framework for international crimefighters as they strive to identify and prosecute cross-border hate crimes on the Internet, an area politicians are eager to crack down on in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
Civil liberty groups have also objected to the proposal, fearing it could bring the more rigorous anti-hate speech laws that exist in continental Europe {and Canada} to the more liberal UK and U.S.
For example, it is unlawful to post or sell Nazi regalia or propaganda on the Internet in France and Germany {and Canada}, but there are few legal curbs in the U.S. and Britain.
The "hate speech" amendment is expected to be brought into the convention this July,
{maybe this is the way to shut up bigots like Falwell and Robertson.}

This is a site that dispells the myths of the church of scientology. I posted it here because as a lot of you know I am a physician and the c.o.s. has a view(dangerous at that) on medicine, particularily, that branch of medicine that pertains to psychology and psychiatry, which is contrary and contradictory to the medical establishment, and most (thank God) others. Have no doubt that c.o.s. is a cult, plain and simple. Operation Clambake,

French court asked to ban Paris Scientology church
PARIS, Feb 22 (Reuters) - A French prosecutor asked a court on Friday to consider shutting down the Church of Scientology in the greater Paris area, saying it engaged in "mental manipulation." "This is about protecting potential victims," prosecutor Christine Forey told the court in Paris. "I ask you to think about the penalty of dissolution due to the methods used by Scientology," she said.
Seeking to control the activities of sects, French legislators passed a law last year making it an offence to abuse a vulnerable person through "the exertion of heavy or repeated pressure or techniques" liable to alter his or her judgment.
The law also allows courts to ban groups if individual members are convicted of such existing offences
The original foundation of Scientology, called "Dianetics," actually provides a great deal of good information about human nature and function.
But, it's like Ron Hubbard took Jungian science and warped it into an odd system of analytical/reactive mind therapy.
I was involved with Scientology for a short bit. I leaped clear (pun intended) away from it after just a couple of auditing sessions. The method of "clearing" bad engrams is quite startling and probably completely ineffective. It's no fun to be yelled at when you fail to put the right pegs into the right holes, symbolically speaking. I question it as an applicable science.
Simply stated, it's a method of parting fools with their money. It works, and will continue to work as long as there are fools in the world. The illusion of intelligence and clear thought, along with the promise of redemption and prosperity, help to line the pockets of clever salesmen. True Scientology auditing costs a LOT of money. Sure, they say you can do it with a friend, but they surely frown on anyone actually doing it that way.
Taking the principles of Dianetics and engineering a religion out of it is quite an accomplishment. But truly, their religion and science is based on nothing but a superiority complex.
Even after telling my representitive those very words, he still saw fit to hound me literally for YEARS, and I eventually had to threaten physical violence in order to stop his harassment.
Avoid scientology. Dianetics, however, is a good book to read - as long as you take it with a grain of salt (and keep your Jung texts handy for comparison purposes).
Having been involved with both Gorean ideology, and Scientology, I can tell you with complete confidence the two concepts (and how they are relayed) are completely different. Scientology is a huge organized religion, whereas Gorean ideology is just a belief structure held by a few and roleplayed by many.

Re: Speaking of made up philosophy
Kinda sounds like all religions. Supreme being creates all. Impregnates a woman by some sort of osmosis, so Son of God can save the world. He does a few David Copperfield tricks. They kill him and comes back to life and all is good in the world. So they left out the flying saucer bit.
The Pope says no matter if an abortion will save the mother, it is immoral sin and against the laws of the Catholic church. What about Christian Science Monitor? They do not believe in western medicines. Are they a cult as well? How about Judaism? They force the barbaric ritual of circumcision on their infant males. The American Association of Pediatrics cannot recommend a policy of routine newborn circumcision. What about Buddhism? Wicca? If you want to take away rights of Scientologists, you'd best be prepared to have your own beliefs tampered with as well.
