About Dirt
I got a question about dirt. I know that my garden soil is acidic. It also has a lot of rocks in it. I was wondering if I would be better off getting some topsoil and raising it up maybe 8 inches and putting some kind of barrier along the edges. My garden spot is only 20 x 40, so it is not that big. Good idea or not?

Re: About Dirt
Tom that is an excellent idea. Raised beds are perfect. Your plants will love it. If you should decide to expand your gardening, remember lime helps to sweeten sour(acidic) soil.
I guess I should turn this into a gardening/craft site :lol
thanks for visting, looks pretty quiet in here, huh? I spend more time at your place than I do mine....... :lol
Oh, yeah, be sure and check the ph of the topsoil, cuz pumpkins like it sweet, not sour......hmmmmmmm wish I had a smiley face with a sour look .... :lol

Re: About Dirt
I usually grow tomatos and broccoli and a few peppers also. The peas didn't work out for some reason.

Re: About Dirt
Thomas, the last 2 years I have had problems with peas. I have been trying to grow sugar snaps. They are like snow peas, but you let the pea get big before picking. the entire pea is tender ( it's fairly new). They don't seem to like me, but I'll not stop trying. The one thing Inever can seem to get at the right time is a nitrogen fixer (powder) that you coat the seeds with before you plant. ALso, peas are weird. They like warmth to germinate and cool to grow.......go figure. This year I plan ( I hope) to start peas in the greenhouse and then plant........we'll seeeeeeeeeeeee.
Cathy, I love tomatoes too. We live at 6217 ft altitude and the soil takes awhile to warm up. It's hard to get many tomatos, cause they fruit late (here) , but I continue to try different varieties and always plant them......cause there is just nuthin like a really fresh tomato........yummmmmmmmm.
