A new finding ]]It was nightfall by the time Saber had reached the new pack lands. It was very strange compared to his old pack, but yet he was the hunter there. Now he appeared to be just a subordinate, having nothing special to do. After passing the swinging willows, with their tangled branches, and miniscule leaves blocking his eyesite, the male had finally reached his destination. This pack. The stars twinkled as he watched, each one moving closer together each time he blinked. So, this was it. His new treasure to hold on to.
He knew the others of this pack would be asleep, and knew better to disturb them in a hasty way. He could wait here, and meet the the alphess tomorrow. No matter, he enjoyed the scerene land he was on, and needed to familarize himself where he belonged. The snowpacked land would be his new home of comfort and warmth, but it would take some getting used to. The highstrung male didn't like change, but there was no other option. This was all he had.
His verimillion eyes wandered to and fro, first from the glittering stars, next to the casted shadows on the midnight soil. It would be unusual if he was the only pack member and also an advantage. He'd have more opportunity to meet with the leaders, but avoiding that as much as possible was also a solution. Saber wasn't friendly, and didn't plan to be a very social wolf while here. This was just another pack. Another home. Another scenery. Nothing else. Or, atleast, that's how he saw it.

Evane crept slowly through her lands. Newcomers always did this to her - made her antsy, made her nervous. She never knew what to expect with them, and being still a small and young wolfess out on her own (not to mention that this would be her first time as alphess of any sort of pack), she knew that it would be easy as pie for a stronger canid to take advantage of her. Aside from her size, she was also a very trusting creature, almost naive in the civil way she treated everyone. Sure, she had her times when she could be blue (ooc: no PP pun) or angry, but Evane often hid those emotions away, for fear of scaring off her pack members, the bare few that she had. She couldn't risk a one-wolf pack. Kalm would mock her for that, and she would be so lonesome that she would have no choice but to simply return to his lands, beg forgiveness, and accept a tolerated, but despised rank as omicron.
Saber - that was the wolf's name, she could keenly recall it - would be her first accepted packmate. He was only an Iota, but she was certain he would soon rise to meet a new and better rank. After all, she had no knowledge of his likely talents and skills. Who knew if he would be more suited for hunting, diplomacy, or even the envied position of alpha-male? Thinking of the lattermost rank, she drifted into a heavily romanticized question that she had long denied herself: would she ever be able to settle down and have pups of her own one day? And if so, would she be able to avoid treating them with more favor than she did the rest of her pack? Evane shook the thoughts from her head again. This was not the time; after all, she had hardly a year of life on her shoulders. After another year or so, she reasoned. Then motherhood might be more suited to me.
The wind brought scent to her, scent of Saber. It wasn't surprising that she could recognize him so quickly and easily even after only a brief meeting, for he was the only other in her pack, the only other with the distinct pack-smell, the subtle smell of remorse... Subtle Remorse! That would be the name of her pack! For days she had been debating it, and now it came clear to her, almost as clear as the form of the he-wolf before her.
"Out for a minnigh' [midnight] stroll too?" she asked quietly, unsure if he could hear her, or if he was even awake. Maybe he could sleep standing up - she wouldn't know it. For now, she kept her distance; for all she knew, he could be an aggressive sort of wolf.

Saber had fallen in to a trance-like state. The wearing down of the journey had finally settled into place, after the countless miles he had conquered. His gaze was still focused on the gleaming lights that dotted the sky, but any sense of conscience was lost for the mean time. His crooked position was now just numb, and the male still couldn't find any sanity, or even what he was doing. The deep slumber had mesmerized him, flowing and prancing about, and he had eventually given in. Despite the uncomfort it might have caused one, it was pleasant for him.
Then came the voice. Definatly a female's. His mind raced, but his body refused to greet her, but mind took over body. Arousing from his spot, Saber groggly approached, what appeared to be Evane. "Evane? That you over t'er?" If it indeed was her, he knew this was not a good impression to leave on her. If she didn't know any better, she'd think he was a lunitac, who had by some odd chance fallen asleep on her lands. But, no. Under the circumstances, it was midnight, he had traveled quite a ways, and the fatigue still wasn't disappearing. "Midnigh' stroll? Why, I guess it appears that way no? I figur'd you'd be sleeping."
He thought everyone would be sleeping, but obviously he was wrong. He was always that way though. What he envisioned was always out of order, and it would always turn on him only to reveal it could prove he was absurd and a fool as he knew himself as. It was only a matter of time for others to figure that out. Evane would most likely see him as deranged in the future, but for now, he had to show himself as Saber. A pack member. Nothing more, nothing less. He could be a nusiance, bt also a pleasing hybrid. He just hoped Evane wouldn't desert him or, even worse, kick him out of the pack because of any wrong-doing that might occur.
He looked at her up and down. Her fur greatly contrasted to the thick sable he was covered in, but her eyes were a similar color. His were verimillion, and her's appeared to be a hue of that anyways. Their brief meeting before was of importance, but he still wasn't easeful around her. Nor was he adequate or charming around others for the first moments. He'd have to get to know them, and this was the same case. He'd have to bond with her, or conjure a friendship in time. Who knew what that would lead to, but he wanted to take this 'new pack thing' one step at a time.
"So, what've you been doin' lately? He could tell she was wary of him, and he knew he wasn't doing a great job of breaking the ice. If he even was. She'd have to get used to him.Edited by: Saber Axic at: 4/2/04 10:27 am

The addressed femme grinned, pleased that he had at least remembered her name, and watched him draw closer, allowing it for the most part. "Aye," she replied, nodding slightly. The other appeared to be sleepy, and it didn't surprise her - it was awfully late at night to be up and wandering about. Saber seemed to also be thinking of this.
"Midnigh' stroll? Why, I guess it appears that way no? I figur'd you'd be sleeping."
"An alphess sleepin'? Tha'd be a rare sight 'n these parts. Me pack's so small, I'm always keepin' watch t' make sure everythin's safe. Can't trust any wolf 'round here, it seems." Realising that might sound rude to the other, she quickly added, "No offense to ye or anythin'." Frowning inwardly, she cursed the awkwardness of the situation. Oh, how she disliked meeting new people - nothing personal, it was simply how she was wired.
"So, what've you been doin' lately?"
"Ooh, almos' everythin' and a half these days," Evane answered. "Patrollin' barders [borders] fer lone wolves, keepin' an eye on th' game, all that. Quite good fer me really," she admitted. Changing the subject she threw in, "So, ye're an Iota, aye? Wha're ye hopin' to do fer Subtle Remorse, ah, Saber is it?"
She nearly forgot his name, but recalled it in time. Evane could only hope it wasn't obvious.

What was that supposed to mean? Just the very few scarce wanderers around here, or even pack members? Even if it was just nothingness, he still didn't feel very safe with that thought. He only hoped she didn't mean it the way it seemed. Did she see him as a threat to the pack?

Well, it relieved him somewhat, but didn't eliminate his fears all together. Sure, he was only an Iota, but if she really didn't appreiciate his being around, she should just come out and say it. Hidden meanings, or even subtle hints weren't a favorite of Saber's. Nor would they ever be. Should he just ask her if she doesn't like him? Or was it just the ice breaking they were going through? He'd wait awhile until he'd ask her the question. That is, if the tension didn't soften between them. Although, the first meetings were alway awkward and tight.
So, ye're an Iota, aye? Wha're ye hopin' to do fer Subtle Remorse, ah, Saber is it?
Was she already losing her memory? There were very few pack members already, and now, it seemed as if she stumbled upon recalling his own name. He was her ifrst member after all. Saber lifted an eye, surprised by her actions, and the questions she proposed. Maybe she just was new to this thing. Maybe. "Yes. I be an Iota. Subordinate. " The name discusted him already, but, he couldn't choose. He was fortunate to be in her pack. "Subtle Remorse. What I plan on doin'? Well, I guess ye could say I wanna make it a strong pack. Even if I am Iota, I still plan on makin the pack strong. When the option arrives, keep everyone in line. Maintain the well-being of it. "
What else could he say? It was only the mere truth, and that was all. Now it was her turn to roll another ball.

"Oh really?" Evane replied, keenly watching the male, and praying that he was serious. If he was, well... he would be like a dream packmate. Now all she needed were a handful of exact replicas. "Well tha's good. W' tha' attitude, ye won't stay Iota fer long." Drat - had she just spoiled everything!? "I can't promise anythin', though," she added quickly, with a sincere smile. She always thought that rank promotions were supposed to be this big surprise that everyone loved, not discussed like it was the weather. It was a relief that this Saber wasn't as shy and reclusive as the others.

Oh really? Was that so? She seemed to be covering up her comment. "Well tha's good. W' tha' attitude, ye won't stay Iota fer long. I can't promise anythin', though," Well, in a sense, it was relieving to know that he wouldn't be Iota for long, hopefully. Apparently all he had to do was keep his plan in line. Of course he'd carry it out, but when was only a matter of time. First, maybe he'd just wander, meet everyone, get to know them, and all the socializing @#%$ he hated. Then, just scout, monitor everything, all by free will. That too was his duty however.
"Ah. No need to promise. I be happy with anythin'" This too surprised him, not expecting a well-covered comment such as that already. Although, having an Alpha like her was peculiar too. She wasn't as conceited and angular as his past one's. She treated him as a normal hybrid, and that was what mattered.
He had chosen the right pack. Now, all he had to prove even more to her that he could be the same way. Aside from his tempermetnal attitude, he could be rather confined, and pleasing as he'd like. Could she accept both of his sides? Perhaps. In time. Edited by: Saber Axic at: 4/4/04 2:15 pm

(OOC: xX; I would really appreciate it if I could close it - I hate leaving people's threads to die, but as my thread in the OOC forum says, I was grounded, so... :/ Anyway, I'm planning to open a pack hunt to get my joinees active, sooo... we can roleplay together then. ^_^)
