A Heaven Among Strangers (1/1)
My friend Adrienne seems to like this story best. I think it's the worst! And it is one of my first... well, I'm being brave in posting it so reply if you feel the desire to but I understand if you'd rather not. :lol

I am running out of one-parters and they are sooo old. hehe

"A Heaven Among Strangers"
Evie

Hey Potter! Potter!" Pacey stage whispered, as he continuously tossed pebbles at the first floor window of Joey Potter's bedroom.

After about two and half more minutes of this repeated routine, Pacey saw the light click on, and seconds later, Joey appeared in the window.

"Pacey?" Joey croaked, barely able to focus her eyes on him.

"Yep. That's my name."

"What on earth are you doing here at this hour?"

"You forgot?"

"Keep your voice down!"

"I can't believe it. You forgot all about eloping with me tonight."

"Pacey it's two in the morning. I am not in the mood for your wise cracks."

"Who's wise cracking?"

Joey just gave him a look. She was obviously tapping her foot on the other side of the window, arms crossed mouth twisted. Pacey chuckled. One of the reasons he loved her so much. Didn't take any bull. "So, are you coming out or what, Potter?"

"Fine," she gritted. Secretly excited about the concept of finding Pacey waking her up in the middle of the night throwing pebbles at her window. 'How romantically cliche,' she thought stepping into her comfortable white sneakers. Already wearing a pair of gray sweats and a T-shirt, she pulled on her coat and made her way out on to the front porch where she found him waiting.

She couldn't help but smile. He was so handsome. She wanted nothing more than to fall in his arms and beg him to hold on forever.

"Hey there stranger."

"Hey," she spoke softly.

They stared at each other for the briefest of moments, then averted their eyes. Pacey studying a wayward pine needle trapped beneath the toe of his shoe. Joey looking out over the creek. "So..." she finally broke the silence. "Did you need to talk to me about something?"

"Yeah... um..." Pacey tried looking her in the eye, but it was no good. He'd been mulling over it all night. His feelings for Joey were getting stronger and stronger by the day. He felt ready to explode. Then at one sudden instant, he sprang from beneath the covers of his warm bed, and found himself heading toward her house. 'Tell her, tell her, tell her...' He chanted the simple mantra, hoping that it would be enough to give him the strength that he needed once he saw her.

"Is something wrong at home, Pacey?" Joey worried as she watched him struggle with the right words.

"Yeah.. I mean no... nothing's wrong at home. I just wanted to tell you..." He let out a puff of shaky air from his lungs.

"You can tell me anything, Pacey. Stop acting so strange about it."

Pacey laughed slightly, as much as his frazzled nerves would allow him. "You wouldn't say that if you knew what I was about to say..." he replied cryptically.

"Just spit it out already."

"Gee, you sure know how to take the romance out of a perfectly decent profession of love, Potter." *Damn, did I just say what I thought I said?*

"What.. did .. you.. just say?" Joey asked, slowly pointedly... skeptically.

"Um... damn, that didn't come out right. I'm sorry, Jo."

Joey's hope fell down to her shoes. "So you don't love me?"

"No, I mean - of course I love you, Jo."

"Just not in that way. Spare me I've heard it all before."

Taking the few steps that separated him from her, he took her stubborn down turned face between his hands gently, and whispered. "Joey. Do you really think I would've come all the way over here in the middle of the night, threw rocks at your window, dragged you out of bed at 2 o'clock in the morning, just to tell you I loved you as a friend?"

Joey blushed, smiling shyly, feeling the cold wind hitting her cheeks as he released her face and looked down at her. "Well? Aren't you going to say something?"

Brushing the back of her hand against the side of his face, she smiled gently up at him. "It's about damn time goofus."

Pacey chuckled, feeling emotionally heady at the circumstance of the situation he could scarcely believe himself to be in. His eyes traveled over her face in wonder, and he gasped thinking that this had to be some sweetly cruel dream. That he'd wake up any second cursing that it was all just in his head.

"Ouch!" Joey smirked. "What was that for?"

"I know you, Pacey."

"Oh you do? Do ya?"

"Yep," she giggled. "You were thinking the same thing I was... I just thought I'd pinch you and save myself the pain."

"Why you...." he threatened in his best teasing Popeye accented voice.

Standing on her tip toes she place a soft kiss on his right cheek... then moved her lips to his bowed forehead, noticing his eyes had closed at first contact. Droopily his eyes came open, and settled upon her face. "Do you have any idea how much I love you, Potter?"

"If it's even close to half of what I've got for you, Pace. I can die a happy girl."

"Well, I love the thought of you being happy Jo, but I think I'd like to keep ya around for a while. That smart mouth of yours tends to grow on people."

"And that big mouth of yours keeps you from doing what it's supposed to be doing."

"Mmm... and what might that be?"

"Shutup and you'll find out."

Pacey did as he was told, and gratefully so. The softness of her lips set him on fire.

Joey could hardly believe she was capable of such a strong reaction from just one kiss. He was so gentle, so loving, yet so hot and passionate... she wanted the kiss to last forever and ever. Breaking away for about two seconds, exchanging mutual smiles letting the other know that it was time to continue.

Hand flaying behind him, Pacey found his way to the porch bench, and settled Joey in his lap... his mouth only leaving hers for the occasional need to feel the skin of her neck beneath his lips.

After kissing for a good twenty minutes, Pacey rested his head in the crook of Joey's neck breathing in her perfect smell.

Joey rubbed her face into the softness of his hair, placing a kiss there before whispering, "Thank you."

Pacey reluctantly moved his face from its comfortable position and looked at her quizzically. "For what?"

"For making me feel the way you do. For being the sweetest guy I've ever met. For helping me every time I need it, even when I forget to say thank you. Which is usually an awkward hang up thing more than anything else. But still you put up with all of my craziness, my crankiness..." She squinted her eyes as the thoughts ran through her mind..."Why would you want a whacked up girl like me?"

Pacey laughed, and kissed her lips softly - just because he could, and replied amazed. "You've got to be kidding me Potter! You're the one who's.... and I'm the one that's...." He looked away. It was true. Joey was so much better than he was.

"That's what Pacey? And don't use that worn out old loser line on me. I don't buy any of it. Pacey Witter is a strong intelligent, trust worthy caring friend."

He looked up at the word 'friend', as Joey continued. "A friend who I happen to love more than anything," she whispered lowering her lips to meet his.

Heaven. That's it. I must be in Heaven. Pacey thought along with his new found lady love. Maybe it was true, maybe together they could make what normally resembled a life hell on earth, a true Heaven among strangers lost in their own little perfect world. Maybe, just maybe.

THE END
